My surgery is tomorrow my ? is....

Recommended Posts

So my surgery is tomorrow. My husband and I are going to drive down tonight to spend the night in a hotel next to the hosptial. Its a two hour drive and one I dont want to wake at 1 in the morning to just be hungry for the next six hours, and two I dont want to have something happen like traffic or wreck whatever. But my question is with me having surgery at 7 in the morning will I have to spend the night in the hosptial.

How many of you had surgery and were released that day, or had surgery and didnt go home that day....No one seems to have an answer for me.

My husband and I spent the night at a hotel close to the hospital as well. My surgery was scheduled for 8:00 A.m. And I had yo be there by 6:00 A.M.

I was released the same day of surgery at 7:30 in the evening. I thought I was going to spend the night but I done so well they decided to send me home.

We spent a second night at the hotel just in case I might need to go back to the hospital. I did not need yo and all was fine.

Good luck with your surgery tomorrow.

My surgery is tomorrow morning as well and I am very excited! I am to arrive at 7:30am for a 9am surgery. They said I should be on my way home by about 10:30am. Total time being there about 3 hours!! As long as everything stays on schedule that is. It really depends on your doctor. Also are you having yours done at a hospital or surgery center? I am having mine done at a surgery center. My doctor considers lap band patients an out patient procedure. It really is all about what your doctor does and as you read on this site all doctors are different in what they do and require! Good luck tomorrow!!:D

My hospital does a 24 hour hold, so I stayed overnight. Riding in a car was uncomfortable after surgery, so I would recommend that even if you are released the same day, you might want to stay at a hotel close by. Good luck to you!!!

My doctor keeps everyone one overnight. He just makes sure you are only there 23 hours. For the ride home I do recommend bringing a small couch pillow to put between your stomach and the seat belt.

I went home after, mine was like 10 am or something. I was probably there for 12 hours. I wish we had gotten a hotel, the drive was brutal because of the pain!

I think you only stay overnight if it's required by insurance maybe? Or if they have to do something like repair a hernia during surgery.

It completely depends on what your doctor follows. The practice I go to keeps there patients in for 24 hours, longer if there are problems. My surgery was at 11:30 and they were ready to have me released by no later then noon the following day. My husband had a minor surgery so I stayed until 4pm so I didn't have to make other arrangements to be picked up, but I didn't have to. Didn't your doctor tell you if it was an outpatient or overnight?

I had no pain what so ever so the ride home for me was easy. I practically danced out of the hospital. lol

Good luck tomorrow (CindyUdy too)!!

Thank you for all the replies. I actually was so freaked out before surgery I didnt even check this post again, until just now. We spent the night in the hotel across from the hosptial and went in a 5am. We were released about 13 hours. We left a little after 6pm and i couldnt wait to go home. The ride wasnt bad, I slept on and off. We even stopped at a store on the way home to pick up some of the stuff they feed me at the hosptial. I was afraid I wouldnt eat what we had at home. Anyway, Thank you and I hope everyone is doing good.

It's going to depend on your doctor. Mine surgery was actually faster than some shopping trips! I was at the surgery center at 6am and I was in my car being driven home at 9am. Sounds strange, but I was there for probably a little over 3 hours and that was it. Some people I have read here say that they spend the night - but I didn't need to, I did fine at home.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
