Several of us on thsi board had Dr. Kuri perform our surgery.

I have never seen a negative word uttered about him. I have never seen any complications from his surgeries.

He did try to repair an infected port of DeLarla's (lisa) and seemed to have made the original problem worse. DeLarla's original surgery was not performed by Dr. Kuri, he was simply trying to help.

That is the most negative thing I've heard about him to date.

Not too bad.

Personally, I loved him and am very happy that he was my surgeon.

Hi! "Ditto" to Kim and Kathy. I had a question about 3 or 4 days after surgery and called his office. I was immediately patched through to his cell phone and he talked to me personally. It wasn't even an emergency - that showed real concern for his patients that you just don't see here in America.

Just make sure, if you're using a surgeon from Mexico or anywhere else far from home, to line up a doctor for fills. I know many have had their operation elsewhere but fail to keep up with the maintance (fills and checkups). My two cents..Shawn

VERY happy Kuri client here. I thought he was just excellent, and I'm doing great. He has an excellent online teaching forum with very expereinced banded people and banded medical professionals giving excellent advice and education and practical tips about band living. Weekly chats, lots of local support groups.

Some thought the older hospital he used was not great - but he now operates out of a brand new, modern, beautiful hospital no one could dislike. All the medical offices and fluoroscopy labs are brand new too.

The erosion rate is less than 1% overall statistically, but he has far, far fewer than this. Some of the other TJ docs have new erosions reported on the boards almost every week, it seems.

Bandsterhopeful, where are you getting your info on Kuri's erosion rate? I've heard of several eroded Kuri patients but I don't know them personally so I'm not at liberty to discuss their situation. Have you asked Kuri directly?

Anna, Yes, I saw the new hospital yesterday for an unfill. It's just as nice in person. Dr. Kuri's new office in the hospital is beautiful! Much better!

DeLarla, Bandster Hopeful is yet another alias of Sandy RN. She recruits patients for Kuri. Is also promoting a new hospital offered in TJ. Make no mistake. All experienced docs have had slippages and erosions. Kuri has had his share of these and other complications. She makes lots of claims. She’s now on another board claiming that Kuri was asked to proctor by Inamed, but declined. A bunch of bull! The only ones asked to proctor and are proctors are Rumbuat, Ortiz and Lopez. This info may or may not matter to some, but the truth is the truth. Why make up a story? Sandy has been kicked off all the yahoo boards except her own. She keeps coming back under different names.

Kat :rolleyes

I also was smart enough to go to Dr. Kuri and can't find a negative word to say about him. I just wish he would make periodic trips to Ohio. It isn't easy to get to him.

BTW, I just read the other day and saw the pictures this morning of Dr. Kuri's new HOSPITAL facilities. The new place compares to some places in the US. I'm so happy for him and for the future bandsters that go to him. Yes, I'm just a titch jealous. However, I'm now going to go out of my way to go back to him for the FREE fills since they will also be done at the new hospital. Everything all at the same place. It's going to be great and if you have Dr. Kuri do your surgery you won't be disappointed in his skills.

Best of luck

Hello - gellergirl here. I was banded by Dr Kuri 10.12.06 and am very happy with my experience and as I live in so calif plan to go back to him for my fills etc.

I wasn't worried about Mexico as I had a friend who had been banded six months eariler so I had a good reference, also I went to their Christmas party and met about 60 other "Kuri bandsters" and the Doc and his team before my surgery and was able to talk to LOTS of people about their experience as well as their thoughts on Dr Kuri and Mexico and only got positive feedback!

I feel confident that he has my back! And, fingers cross, have had no complications (only on week 5!). When I was worried, I also was patched right to him and also, have been 'checked' on consistantly in a surprisingly frequent manner...

I have been all over the net looking for negitive feedback as I have been worried about erosion and slippage but haven't seen anything though I know anything is possible...

I hope you feel confident as I was pleasantly surprised at how professional and safe the whole trip was Mexico aside - so here is one woman's opinion - I say go for it! I'm glad I did!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
