Anybody seem to have problems with diverticulitis? I have not been diagnosed, but I think thats what the problem may be. I have pains on my left side, most of the time after I eat. It was really bad after my obsession with popcorn, on a daily basis. Lol.. I read that the intestines flare up when u eat something thats difficult to digest. Anyone have it? Any pointers on prevention?

Dont have it but have recently had rectal cancer, surgery, chemo and a temporary ileostomy. My intenstines are pretty darn sensitive at the moment. I am finding I pretty much have to stay on a low residue diet which I absolutely fought against at first - because its a lot of white bread, white Pasta, white rice, limited fruit and vegies, etc. But I simply cannot digest tough fibrous things without pain, bloating and diarrhoea. And I've already had one bowel obstruction.

you need to avoid fibre, that's the main thing and popcorn is one of the WORST things - along with nuts and seeds its absolutely forbidden as it has a very high likelihood of causing a blockage.

if you google a low residue diet you'll find the general guidelines, I have to eat the bread/pasta/rice because it thickens things up so I'm not just pouring watery discharge out of my stoma, but you can otherwise avoid so much white carbs, but you need to learn how to substitute low fibre foods for high fibre ones.

I been having problems with Diverticulitis in the past 2 years, I was banded in Jan 2005 and was doing ok. My questions is my surgery to remove part of my colon will be March 16, does anyone know if i need to get a complete unfill for this? I read about where you get tubes down your nose to your stomach for drainage. I am scared but i had to many infections in the past year and its very painful. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
