I just got banded on the 15th and my Dr. had me schedule an apt in a month for my first fill. I am reading lots of your posts and it seems like many people have to wait a while for their first fill/adjustment. Why does my Dr. want to do one so soon? My start weight was 264 and I am down to 247. I start mushy foods on Tuesday... thoughts???? Thanks for your help, this is very overwhelming!!!

I was banded 1/31, and scheduled for my first fill Tuesday. 3/1. One Month exactly!

I don't find it overwhelming at all. As a matter of fact I can't wait!

I really understand how all of this can be overwhelming. so many instructions, so many new things to get used to. Seven years ago when I had surgery I too felt overwhelmed. I visited my doctor's office every month like clockwork, but did not get a fill for over a year. Perhaps it is just a post op appointment, and you will only get a fill if you and the doctor decide it is time for one based on your hunger, your weight loss and how and what you are eating or not eating. Since you are new on this journey you may find some useful information in the articles on fillsLap Band fills at the Banded Living website. We also have our FREE call The 10 Lessons of Successful Lap Band Patients scheduled for Wednesday evening. You may want to join us. You will get all of the information that can feel so overwhelming sorted out over time. This is new for you. One day at a time. Just keep referring back to any written material that you have and write down questions and don't hesitate to ask them either of your doctor and staff or on forums or at support groups. That's how we all learned and got comfortable with our new lives.

I was banded on January 6, 2011 and got my first fill on February 21, 2011. By this time, I was able to eat about everything and somedays wanted to eat everything in sight. That was my indicator that the swelling in my stomach had disipated and my physician agreed.

I had a bad day where I wanted to eat everything yesterday, but know that 5cc of saline is not enough yet. If I eat too fast or take a bite that it too big, I start to feel a tightening in my chest. Today, I had an egg and one low carb carbohydate for Breakfast and a salad with grilled chicken for lunch. Could only eat half of the salad and it is bed time and I am stil full. I will be getting another fill in 2 weeks. My physician told me that for some people, if they do not have the signs like I did, they do not need a fill until they have those signs/symptoms. I hope this helps you.

I got mine about 5 weeks after surgery.. I think as long as you are on solids you should be fine.

@Che sounds like you have plenty in your band if you are full for that long, why would you need more?
