I was banded 9-28-09 and since then I lost about 20 lbs, I told the doctor that my stomach didn't feel the same because I gained 30 lbs, so he did a barium swallow. He found out that my band unbuckled. So I go back into surgery 3-14-11. Thank God for insurance. Wish me luck.

I do wish you luck...I also wish that someone would fess up to not doing the original job properly so you didn't have to pay again...bands do not unbuckle themselves as a rule.

Best wishes, Mimi

I've always wondered...when they find something like this has happened, why do they wait so long to correct it?

Yea, it sounds like he didn't fasten it properly! It unbuckled....funny! Good it's going to get fixed and you can start back losing! I know you are too excited about that!

This sounds similar to mine, however, I knew one and 1/2 year ago that something was wrong, the surgeon kept sayiing it was my fault and to keep following the protocol??? Now he finally says the band became unbuckled. I am trying to find if anyone knows is that a surgeons issue or just a band draw back? I am of course very upset and have gained the whole 8olbs orginally lost. Aggghhhhh!

Geez....I would think that would either be negligence of the surgeon or a defect in the band. I don't think "we" should have to pay for those errors.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
