Eating = upper back pain... ??

Recommended Posts

I have a question...

I have had my band since June 2010, and have done great so far. About 3 months ago I had to get a slight unfill due to heartburn. I went to the dr 3 days ago and got a fill. The first fill he put way too much in, and it hurt so bad to swallow the Water. He drained the band completely so that the water could pass, and then he filled it up again giving me a .2cc fill. Which is the perfect amount. HOWEVER, now every time i eat... i dont get "stuck" but i get full... my upper back aches so bad. Its kinda where the bra line would go... or the lungs. Until the food passes, then my back will feel better. Of course this will happen on a Friday... when i can finally eat solids again and cant contact my dr till monday. Has any one had this happen to them, or know what it could be??

Also, i find when i drink liquids it hurts. As if it isnt going down. But i can eat food just fine. I heard some people say to drink the liquid at room temp bc I can still be iritated from such a dramatic fill... so i will give that time. But my back... i am concerned. Help?

Thank you for your time..

I'm sorry you aren't feeling well. I have had that "back pain" too, but it was due to trapped air when I ate or drank. I found a way to burp and I felt better.

I'm not sure what is going on if you aren't able to drink, but you can eat solid food. Are you eating and drinking at the same time? I was told to wait 30 minutes after I ate to drink liquids and everytime I forget and drink, I either have to vomit or I get that pain.

UPDATE:

I actually made a personal call to my dr and he was able to see me sunday afternoon. He said that my pouch is very swollen and that is why my back is hurting. Needless to say, he completely unfilled my band. I will be unfilled for 2 weeks to give it time to heal up, and get fills very slowly from then on out. He said that if i did not see him, my band could have easily of slipped. So im praying in two weeks, everything will Iron out and i will be able to get a fill. I kinda wish he would have ordered a upper GI just to make sure there is no slippage. Im a worry wart, so i need to just trust him.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
