Houston Band 09MAR2011 w/ Dr Hollis

Recommended Posts

Finished all pre-op and blood work. Have met with Dr Hollis and his staff and feel quite confident about their qualifications and success. I am starting off at a low BMI and am a little nervous about the slow progression this process might take. I am 39 years old and 5'7" and a starting weight of 192. Started the pre op diet early and am down to 186 lbs. Goal weight of 135 lbs. I was so pleased that Dr Hollis' office has their self pay special, but was shocked at their financing options. I feel very lucky that my husband has offered to pay for the procedure.

I am the usual mix of emotions: scared, excited, but sure of my choice. I have been in a downward spiral with a back injury that put an end to running daily which was the only way I was able to keep my weight in check.

Thank you for any insight and suggestions of expectations.

Congratulations on getting your surgery scheduled! I plan to use Dr. Hollis in April. I've heard lots of good things about him.

I have my first consultation at True Results next week. Do you mind explaining what you mean by "shocked at their financing options"?

I have my appointment at True Results this Wed. and am considering using Dr. Hollis. I am curious too about the shocked at their financing options. I am a self pay with a low BMI. I was approved for finance and so far not shocked.

I also have a low BMI. So did you have any problems getting the procedure with your low BMI? Thanks!

Sandy, I'm going for my first one-on-one consultation on Thursday. I believe Care Credit has a 14.9% interest rate. I think True Results offers financing for part of the surgery if you need it, but NewBandit95 is the first that I have seen that implies that the TR financing is out of line. I guess I'll find out soon enough. My employer specifically wrote bariatric surgery out of our policy. :(

I am so sorry I failed to respond in a timely manner. I have been out of town working.

When I say "shocked" I was just a bit surprised by the 14.9% finance charge when financed through Care Credit. It seems rather high, however, I don't have any experience in pricing a elective or medically necessary procedures. But thank goodness there is that option for anyone who does not have insurance coverage.

I had my first appointment on a Monday, my pre-op seminar and meeting on Wednesday. I received a call on the following Monday that I was approved for surgery 3 weeks later (March 9). It was a very seamless process and was actually a pleasant experience.

Best wishes to you folks using True Results and Dr. Hollis. I really enjoyed meeting him and that staff. I felt he was quite informative and very thorough with the seminar.

Keep me posted on your surgery dates and I will try to do better about checking back with LBT. I think I need to check my settings and notifications. I didn't even know anyone had responded to my post.

Steph

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
