Surgery Tomorrow Morning at 7am!

Recommended Posts

It's been a long wait, and I managed to do fairly well on my pre-op diet. I'm not going to lie...I did slip up once or twice. Now that I'm sitting here and realizing that at this time tomorrow I'll be home in my bed recovering from my surgery - my nerves are fried! I literally feel like I am going to throw up just sitting here typing. I have to be at the surgery center at 6am tomorrow morning and I'm the first scheduled surgery of the day at 7am. According to the nurse I talked to the other day I will probably be on my way home by about noon.

I've had major surgery twice already - 2 c-sections and one of them was an emergency so I'm familiar with pain. Can anyone who's had this surgery tell me what to expect post-op as fas as pain goes. Please tell me it's nothing close to what I went through after having the kids!

Please tell me that I'm doing the right thing! I'm not doubting myself or my decision - I'm just scared...

Good Luck with your journey I am sure you will do well. My sujury is March 1 and I am very nervous also. I am struggling with the pre diet myself. Are you on a complete liquid diet one week prior to surjury.

My doctor had me on a full liquid diet two weeks before surgery. It sucked pretty bad. I was allowed 2 protien shakes a day and then Soup for one meal. Of course I could have all the sugar free Jello and popsicles...but after the first couple of days they lose their appeal. I've already gone to the store to pick up oatmeal and cream of wheat for when I'm able to start adding "full" liquids, but I know that it's not going to be much more than Water for the next two or three days yet.

You'll do fine was a major wreck second guessing my decision all the way to admission but I had an amazing nurse. I'm only a week out but I was back at work after only one day off and I've been very active since doing yard work running baseball practice walking etc.... Good luck it'll go smooth!

Being banded was my first surgery and I was terrified. I am a big baby when it comes to pain (still scared of needles to this day) and I can honestly say the pain post-op was about a 3/10. If you don't have Gas-X strips, get some! Remember to walk when you can and sip your Water. You will feel discomfort and gas pains for a few days/weeks but it gets better!

Good luck during your surgery, you'll do great! :D

I had surgery this mornIng and it went great. I won't lie, it was a bit painful with the gas in my shoulder but I had a three hour car ride home and the first part of the day I was not taking enough pain medicine. The gas pain and sore throat was the worst. I have just been up walking all I can.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
