I've been lurking for a while now. In fact, I was on here in 2008 as well. At the time I checking into getting banded by December of 2008, but my parents insurance ran out 1 month too early and my new insurance didn't cover lap band procedures. So, I am now at a full-time job that I love and just found out (don't know why I waited this long) that we cover it with strict criteria to meet over a 6 month period: BMI over 40 (mine is like 47), 6 months of documented nutrtional counseling, ect ect. I am going for my 2nd consult (had one back in 2008) this coming Thursday, Feb. 24th at 3pm. I'm nervous and excited all at the same time. I have done my patient info page, 4 day food/activity journal. If all goes well in the next 6 months, I could be banded by August/September of this year. biggrin.gif

General info: 26 years old, female of 284 lbs (recently gained 10 lbs). Been maintaining this weight for about 5 years. Had all tests known to man to make sure it's not my thyroid/ect. and in fact, my GP checks it every year just to see. I try so hard to be healthy, but I honestly do not understand nutrition to the extent I probably should. I often get VERY overwhelmed with all the information I find or all that I'm given. I workout at the gym 4-5 days a week for atleast 33 mins (elliptical), usually do free weights (legs, arms), also take a class here and there (fave: zumba) and walk on occasion and would LOVE to get into running at some point.

Highest weight as adult: 284

Lowest weight as adult (as far as I can remember): 220 (2003, I was 18)

I've tried Atkins, low cal, low fat, cut this, cut that. Nothing sticks. I need help. :) I'm hoping with a bit of help I will succeed.

Will def. keep updating as the process moves.

Hi there My name is Jennifer I am 31 years old and I am married and have three kids.I have been in the same boat with you about dieting. It's very exciting to here that our insurance will cover a procedure like this. The only criteria my insurance requires is that I have to be 18 years old, Have a BMI at 40 which I am 41,have to have a phyc evaluation, and 6 months of nutrition via telephone. I go to my seminar on Monday so I am excited about that. After that she said that a nurse coordinator will contact me and set me up with the rest of my appointments. It sounds like you and I might be banded around the same time :) I am keeping my journey quiet for a few reason's so other than my husband this will be my support on here. Good luck with your journey and I look forward to seeing your post. Have a great day.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
