Do they use a monster sized needle and does it hurt? How long does it take to get a fill? I know my first fill will be done in radiology by my surgeon in a few wks.

I'm sure this has been asked before so forgive me for being redundant.

Thanks.

I've had 2 fills and neither of them hurt one bit. For me it was very quick both times. My doctor's office doesn't use any topical numbing, they just find your port, and give the fill. Good luck with your journey :)

To me its not a big deal, just like getting a shot. My doc numbs (but I don't think its necessary). Then a little pressure and your done. Don't worry no biggie!

I've had 2 fills and for me I wouldn't say they hurt, I could feel the needle going in for sure. And the 2nd fill the port was/is sort of on it's side and the nurse took 2-3 tries at it. That was a little uncomfortable, but still wasn't horrible.

I've had 3 fills. The 2nd one didn't bother me, but the 1st one and 3rd one did. The PA said that she had trouble finding the actual spot where they stick the needle for the 3rd fill. Now I am not looking forward to another fill.

You can clearly feel the needle going in. It's funny because my port is pretty deep. Keep in mind I tend to have the same nurse. Sometimes she finds it in 1 second and is done; other times she is twirling the needle around (sorry) looking for it. I don't really find it that painful. I think it would be worse to get a numbing shot and then the fill needle.

No pain really. I mean nothing worse than a regular shot. It's the most awkward experience though having then stick a needle in your stomach! haha

Fills aren't pleasent for me because I seem to have a difficult to find port! It involves a LOT of pushing around, and several needle sticks before they get it. I end up with a big bruise. Once I've lost a little more weight and there isn't so much fat hiding my port I hope it will be easier!

I have only had one fill so far (likely getting another one on Friday), but for me, my one and only fill so far DID hurt, but my Doctor doesn't normally need numbing med in his experience with most patients but I must be an exception to that rule because WOW did it hurt for me until I insisted on some numbing medicine. Once he put that in, smooth as can be with no further pain. I sure did bruise up a bit though from him having trouble finding my port under my skin (the port is clearly felt but he had trouble finding where they need to put the needle). He said that now that he knows exactly where it is on me, that wont be an issue next time. And definitely for me next time, I am insisting on the numbing medication before things even begin.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
