Hey guys and gals- I got a question.

I just had my first fill, I now have 4cc in a 14cc band. Today is the last day on "mushies"

Am I at the stage where I should feel full after something like 1/3 cup of food? Reason I ask is because it seems like I can eat about 1 cup of food, then 30-45 minutes later (Still feeling hungry) eat another cup of food.

Thanks for any thoughts.

You won't ever feel full after 1/3 cup of food. You are supposed to eat 1 to 1-1/2 cups of food per meal :) the 1/2 cup thing is for when you are healing. I never feel really "full" I mean vaguely, but I never have the stuffed feeling.

Are you really hungry, or is it mental? If you are just be patient, the hunger will go away over time. Also it takes a few weeks for the fill to take effect.

My experience has been that after I reached proper restriction, 1/2 c of soild food is all I can eat. The size of my pouch (volume) is only 1/2 c. If you eat more than the size of your pouch, the food is going through to the lower stomach too fast or you are streatching the pouch or filling esophagus. I have heard some people can stand food in the esophagus, bit I simply can not. I have to stop when I feel my full signal. Until you reach your sweet spot you will be able to eat more and will get hungry between meals.

It sounds like you will still need another fill so you don't get hungry so soon after eating.

Oh, I totally agree with hummingbird! I can barely eat a half cup of anything! My doc says anything less than half the volume of your band is like not having a band. I have a 10 cc band with 7.5 in it. I am at perfect restriction. My doc had me lay down, accessed the port, then they crank the table up so I am sitting and hand me a cup of Water to chug. She is injecting as I chug and when I choke she says, "Perfect!"...she was right. I dont know why these docs are so 'cheap' with the fills! It just makes people feel bad when they dont have enough restriction and then they are dieting and feeling bad about that!

I usually eat about 1 cup of food. Sometimes a little more. I don't freak out when I eat a little more than a cup.

1/3 cup is nothing. You need to eat more than that. I've tried to get down to 3/4 cup, but that only works for me, when it is something like cottage cheese.

My doctor says 3 oz by weight of solid Protein and then veggies/fruits. I use a digital scale and use a "lunch/sandwich" plate. I refuse to use baby silverware. Until you hit restriction this is a diet. Once you are on solids eat the perscribed amounts and then stop. While my Nut does'nt want me to get in the habit of snacks; she does approve having one between lunch and dinner. Since I go to the gym in between it can be a longggg time between the two for me. If you are having a snack I would recommend either veggies (no dip), greek yoghurt (excellent source of portein for the calories), low fat cheese stick.

I agree with others, 1/3 or 1/2 cup isn't enough; I don't see me ever being satisfied, that is just too restrictive and I can't imagine getting enough nutrition with so little food.. My measurements would be closer to 1 cup.

I don't understand why you see it that way (the might as well not have the band comment). A cup of food certainly isn't a lot of food and you can eat that much and stay within the calorie restrictions. From the time I healed from surgery, that is how much I have eaten and was able to lose all of my weight and keep it off. So that shows every reason to still have the band.

In my opinion, eating so little food as 1/2 or 1/3 cup would not be very satisfying. I do not measure anymore but I wonder, how do you even get 3 oz of meat and 1 or 2 veggies to equal 1/2 cup? And are you getting enough nutrition and Fiber with it?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
