First me - Now my husband

Recommended Posts

Hello, I was just sent to this website by my doctor. Support is great and I will take it from anywhere I can get it.

I was Banded on 1/27/2011 and my husband got his surgery date today - 3/24/2011. It took insurance 18 days to approve my surgery and only 4 days to approve my husband's. I have been doing great so far, didn't have a lot of pain at all, there hasn't been any major issues with the surgery. While in surgery my doctor noticed that my liver and spleen are enlarged so I have been getting tests to see what that is all about, but overall I have been doing great. I go for my first fill on 3/7/2011, I am looking forward to that, because right now I am pretty much staying hungry all the time.

Have a GREAT day!

Welcome!

It's great that you and your husband will both have the same sort of surgery, you'll be able to support each other and will always have someone to split a meal with when you go out to eat. Too bad you are now so hungry. They call it "bandster hell" 'cause you are banded but don't have the restriction yet to suppress your hunger. Try the "south beach diet" it helps with the hunger issue and is very band friendly.

Good luck on your journey,

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
