Who did you tell?

Recommended Posts

I have told my immediate family, they all are either over-weight or obese, so they are very supportive and happy for me. Most of them know that it is not going to be an overnight miracle, so I don't feel any pressure. Most others have no idea that I had surgery, I will tell them when I feel comfortable.

I am almost 2 years out and my parents do not know yet. The reason is because I have tried and failed so many times, some with bad outcomes as with phen/fen. I will tell them sometime but I wanted it to work before they knew, so they would not worry, they are 80yrs old and do not need to worry for me especially with my history. (they live in Fla 6 mo of the year so I don't see that much of them mostly talk on the phone)

Yes I have lost 80 lbs and my mother has asked my sisters if I am loosing weight they replied yes we noticed but "we don't discuss her weight you know she hates that, you'll have to ask her"

No one at work knows. My last job no one knew either. I did not schedule time off to have the surgery, I called in sick at 5am before I went to the hospital (a friday) I called again on monday and said I had galblater issues and needed another day. I went back to work on tuesday. (desk job)

I have on the other side my 3 sisters who do know and support me in my decision. Two of my sisters are 120 lbs or so and although I don't think they really know what it is like they support me whole heartly. Of course my girl friends know and are also supportive.

I find it interesting that another topic on the board right now is that Star Jones won't go on the record with her surgery. Why can't she keep it a secret like others in this thread want to? Seems like a double standard. FYI: I think she should go on the record but that's not my point.

Here is my point. If I had met someone a couple of years ago who would have told me about the LapBand, it would have saved me health problems and heartache. I figure, it's part of my journey to help others in this life. I may not be the best example but I am trying and I don't want others to suffer when I know there is an answer. Why be greedy with the answers?

Mom, Mother and father-in-law, kids, husband, best friend, and sister and brother-in-law. Those who I felt would support and not judge!

Being different is what makes this site work!!!! : - )

I think we all would tell those around us if we were surrounded by positive, upbeat, supportive, caring people. But, unfortunately we can't chose our family!

I am getting banded in Mexico this coming Thursday and I have told those people in my life that I knew would support me. Those that knew I was making a decision that was well thought out .... My Wonderful Husband, My Loving Caring Stepdaughter who is a nurse, My best friend Linda and My best Friend Melody.

My family doesn't understand addiction. I love them and accept them for who they are...... but, through a great deal of work, I no longer look for comfort from those who are unble to give it to me or will judge me. I turn to those who love me for who I am and don't have negative comments to say about me.

THAT IS MY TWO CENTS.......

I'm in the "tell all" group.

My family knew what I was going to do and was very supportive. I selectively told work folks ( and they told two friends, etc)

I really felt like I was eating in a fishbowl for the first couple of months.

I work in about a 90% male environment and as alot of you know, their memories tend to be short so, where there was interest in the beginning about portions and what I was eating, they have mostly seem to have forgotten I've had anything done.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
