I wouldn't worry too much, it's probably more to prepare you for what's to come... I just had liquids for a week. i didn't have any other diet. Just don't cheat on the liquids!! That is to prepare and shrink your liver for surgery

But after surgery you have to watch everything you eat and watch your calories and make sure it's 1200 everyday, or you won't lose any weight. So it's good practice.

You should always follow your doctor's instructions, but it's fairly common to not have a pre-op diet. My only instruction was to not eat after midnight the day of surgery. Except in rare exceptions, my practice (Center of Excellence) doesn't require a pre-op diet.

I, like you, was stressed over the impending surgery and ate horribly. All went well. Despite a high BMI, there were no problems with my liver and surgery went very well with no complications.

Hey, my surgery is on the 23rd too. The truth is there is no such thing as failure. If we were following all of the rules and doing everything right then we probably wouldn't need the help of the band. My doctor just told me to do Atkins for 2 weeks pre-op and not to have anything to eat or drink after midnight. That is so that you don't get anything in your lungs (my sister said) when they lay you down for the surgery.

shoot, eat while you can because you won't be able to after surgery!! not that it's a good idea not to follow your surgeons instructions, i didn't follow the pre-op diet. i just couldn't stomach the medi-fast food they gave me and it's hard only having liquids. it's a little easier post-op though.

now... post-op is a totally different story. please follow his instructions after surgery. that is SO important!!

I did not have a pre-op diet. My surgery was rushed at the last minute due to insurance issues, it happened a month sooner than planned. Anyway, I only had 9 days to eat a healthy diet before surgery. I didn't follow any strict plan, the doctors and nutritionist told me to follow a low fat diet as best as I could, which was basically the diet I had been following all along. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I didnt have to do one at all - its cautionary IN CASE of a big fatty liver which is not uncommon in the obese population but most of the time, its not actually needed. As my doc said, its a fairly rare liver that is so enlarged it cant be operated around and in most cases its simply the enormous amount of abdominal fat that causes the most difficulty - and that's not going to be eliminated in even six weeks Iof a liquid low carb diet.

Dont worry about sucking at the pre op either. I'm the worst dieter in the world. I thought I'd give the Optifast a go, to get going on my new life earlier, to give myself a jump start. I didnt even last three days, I couldnt stand it. All I managed was not to eat anything not nailed down in the weeks leading up to surgery and to exercise every day and I was mighty proud of that. I've been VERY susccessful with the band. Not being able to last on starvation rations is no indication that you wont be successful with th band - after all every single one of us has a history of failed dieting behind us!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
