possible slip?-update

Recommended Posts

I wrote in another thread that after a violent stomach virus, on friday i was in alot of pain, couldn't swallow Water, was light headed andall in all felt like a classic slippage case except that the symptoms dissapeared spontaniously.

well i just ate my supper, i ate one plain burger patty and a tablespoon of baked potato and i now have a dull ache in the chest and i'm feeling lightheaded again. HELP! am i in danger or what?

You progressed really fast to a hard Protein and just might be experiencing some anxiety and irritation fullness. If you keep it down stick to thick liquids or mushies for a few days. If you start vomitting you may need an unfill for your pouch to rest a week or 2.

Best wishes,

Mimi

it doesn't sound like your band has slipped. your stomach was probably swollen from the stomach virus and eating ground meat probably wasn't the best choice to eat right away because it's hard to digest.

drink liquids for a day or two and then mushies for a day or two and your stomach should be less swollen by then!

Couple of things going through my mind.

One, call your surgeon to check in. Tell him or her what is going on. That you had the virus and have had problems since. You might get an Upper GI ordered just to be sure all is well.

Second. Ground beef can be VERY hard on a banded person. One of my worst stuck episodes was on loose cooked hamburger. When I called my surgeon he told me it can be a doozy. Even though it is ground, it has a lot of gristle holding it together.

Banana can also be a tough one to get down. It was one of the first foods I got stuck on, and to this day if I don't eat it slowly, it will get hung up.

Feel better soon.

ive been trying to reach my surgeon but he's away for presidents day weekend, so i'll have to wait i guess. i always thought banana was supposed to be an easy band food. its mushy after all.shows what i know

i want to have agi done to be safe but part of me is scared to see what they find, because the vomiting was so vicious and lasted a few days and that friday episode was so painful....i'm what iffing myself crazy

. getting this band was such an ordeal and then i developed a post op infection which took more than a month to kill and this past month the weight loss has stalled and now this....

i think it's a good idea to get checked out by your doctor because i know how worried you probably are but chances are you're fine. like i said, i just got over the flu too (well bronchitis) and was getting sick from all the nose drainage into my stomach which then aggrevated my acid reflux.

some people can't eat bananas because of the stringy parts of the fruit... it's not easily digested but everyone is different. i haven't been able to eat ground meat since my surgery 3 years ago and boy do i miss it!!!!

hope everything checks out okay but in the meantime try sticking to liquids or mushy foods.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
