Surgery tomorrow!

Recommended Posts

Good afternoon!

I am sitting in my living room, sipping my final Diet Coke for a while and contemplating a dinner of beef broth and sugar free Jello. I am so hungry but I'm also so excited! Anyone have any advice for the first couple days post-op? I"ve been told to walk as much as possible to avoid shoulder pain from the gas used to do the laproscopy. I've also been told to only take very small sips of anything the first two days. Any other advice? Agree/disagree with the other advice? I'd love to hear from those of you who have been there!

I totally 100% recommend getting some of those thermacare pads for your left shoulder. It helped so much the last few days with the gas pains. I was banded last week on 2/17. Good luck!!

Good for you and a big cngrats! I had mine on the 16th, and yes the shoulder pain kills, I read online to sleep if you can tolerate it , on your right side so it can leave your body quicker and I really think that helped! I was more focused on that pain then the incision pain, the port incision hurts the most, not really hurt but is sore. Walk every 2 hours if you can and take sips as tolerated! Everything so far has been true and I wish you the best, you will be fine, you made it this far! :)

Congratulations on your surgery!

The best advice I can give you is to get up and walk as soon as possible and keep your ICE pack on your big incision and full of ice for the first couple of days.

Congrats on your pre surgery weight loss, too! You are going to do great!

heating pad was my best friend! :)

Walking helps the gas pain, and sip lots of Water. Just keep hydrated.

Also when you have to move, like to get up from a chair or lay down take a deep breath, that helps the pain as you move. The pain sucks for the first few days. Make sure you fill the prescriptions for pain meds.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
