Restriction question

That's awesome Elfiepoo! I know you've had your struggles from other posts, so I am so glad to hear that you've gotten to this point! You deserve it! And I surely hope that this amount will stay working for you!

^^THIS^^

The hardest part for me was breaking the *habit* eating whenever or wherever just because I knew it would taste good.

At 6 cc (in a 14cc band) I didn't have hunger, but I still *wanted* to eat and I could still eat anything I wanted. The surgeon's office said to come in for a fill because they're finding that the sweet spot is not just a cessation of hunger for some people, but the loss of the 'desire' to eat as well. So 2 weeks ago last Tuesday I went in and they put in another cc, taking me up to 7.

For some reason, it takes about 2 weeks for me to feel any reaction to a fill and this was no exception. Almost like clockwork, last Tuesday my band suddenly tightened. I was unable to eat little more than Protein shakes for almost 2 days. At this point, I have to be very careful to take small bites (baby spoon size) and chew well and wait between bites...something I didn't have to do at 6cc...BUT my surgeon was right. In addition to a cessation of hunger, I've lost the desire to eat. I eat my 3 meals because my body tells me it's time and I feel the signs of hunger...but as soon as I eat, I'm good for about 4 hours or so.

The band works differently for everyone, so you just have to pay attention to what your body is telling you and then work with that. Good luck. :)

To me restriction is not being hungry for 4 hours. Being satisfied. Right now I am beyond restriction and it is painful and not a good thing. I get little sleep at night because of acid reflux which is horrible. I have never had it before. Everything gets stuck including my antacids, Biotin, etc that I cut in 1/4. I am going to the doctor March 1 to have some liquid removed. I don't eat much now which is great, but it is not worth it. It is a fine line between restriction and too much. Good luck to all.

Why are you waiting so long to go get a bit of an unfill? Other bandsters have said I am too tight, but I am nowhere near this tight. I would think it's not good to leave things like this until march. Acid reflux at night is one of the "emergency signs" that needs to be taken care of ASAP.

I'm having the same issue...I can barely eat and when I do it's really uncomfortable. I have a hard time fulfilling my Water intake as well. I have no energy probably from the lack of food and I'm starting to have a sickly look only after a week. I have 15lbs to goal, so my doctor decided to give me one more fill. He gave me a .5cc, but it was too much. I went last friday and he pulled out .2cc's, but still even having shakes is a bit tough. I have scheduled my unfill appt on March 2 and I'm waiting until then because that is when he will be able to do the fill and view me under x-ray to make sure and see the liquid is flowing to my stomach. This is a tool to help with Portion Control, not restrict you from eating completely. Good luck to everyone!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
