I was actually listening to a local radio station here in Atlanta Ga. They were talking about Star because she was supposed to call in to be on the afternoon show. Her "people" said she would do the show only if they did not ask her about how she lost the weight. The DJ's were trying to get a caller to ask her, she couldn't get mad will an innocent person right?? Well, apparently she got wind of this and did not call in. To make a long story short, a listener called and said her friend worked at Atlanta Medical Center or Atlanta Bariatric Center and that Star had gastric bypass. So much for signing a privacy statement, huh??

Yay me....my first post!

Wow...and what a doozy of a first post it was, too. Yikes...what a way to be outed about your bypass surgery. Not that most folks didn't suspect anyway...but still.

tropicana were you even around before rny, maybe before the lapband but you must be young, if you feel that way why are you even on this page, you sure don't have an ounce of understanding...

I think she has a right to keep it to herself if she wants, but "if" she had weight loss surgery she should have told that in her book. She never will admit it now as she would then be labeled a fraud.

Personally I have only 2 very close friends and my immediate family who know about my surgery. I didn't want people looking at me and watching my progress.

Thank you!!!!! I thought the purpose of this site was to gain insight. For someone to blantly say " they're not going to waste their time" to read medical data speaks volumes on a closed mind. Why bother coming to this site?????? Of course that's OMHO

Come on guys, star jones insists she lost her weight through pilates. Now I cannot see a 300 pound diva doing pilates. Ofcourse she'd endorse to get free $$. Just my two cents.

Did she actually say that? Because if she did, she's either completely deluded, or she has no fear of anyone calling her on it to her face. Count my vote in column B. It's not possible to do pilates when you weigh 300 pounds. It's just NOT.

What an insult to the intelligence of every thinking person.

I believe it too! This is, after all, a woman who got sponsors to underwrite the cost of her wedding. Hurl.

Maybe Inamed will out her!

Not sure why you would think that Pilaties wouldn't be good for our bigger folk, but Pilaties would be great no matter how big you are. I was doing Pilaties at 275, which was my biggest.

I think it's a great work out, it just isn't very aerobic compaired with many other types of excersize.

It is non-impact, and great for strenthening your core muscle groups

I did hear her say that she does Pilates and she eats half of what she did before and that can work for some people. If she did have surgery and she is keeping it to herself for whatever reasons then those are HER reasons. I commend her on the weight that she has lost and if she comes out and says that she did have surgery then she did and that's that.

You can eat right, exercise and lose the weight that you want but you have to be determined to stick with it and obviously I didn't or else I wouldn't be here talking to everyone on this message board. I will admit that I was too lazy to stick with it and love different flavors and textures and can't get enough of some foods and now here I am. Everyone is different and entitled to their own opinions and this is mine. Some things work for others and some don't. And I know that the band is a tool and I use it in that way, not as a miracle cure.

So, Star is Star...she is who she is ...and if she did...she did and if she didn't...she didn't. Who cares...in the big scheme of things does it really matter??

Star's weight loss matters to me! Maybe just because I love watching what celebrities do...

Of course we all wish each other well, but when someone says you can lose 150lbs with pilates I just have to laugh. I think pilates is great exercise and a wonderful way to spend your time, but it will not make you drop half your weight. It burns, like, 100 calories an hour. You would have to do nothing BUT pilates to lose that much weight!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
