Band for sale on eBay!??

Recommended Posts

Am I the only person who has seen this? I can't be the only person who thinks this is pretty crazy... Check out this auction on eBay for an ACTUAL BIOENTERICS LAP BAND! Holy cow...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7578343073

If you read the description, they supposidly have to list it as "used" which is even more weird in my opinion... I didn't think you could sell this kind of stuff on eBay, but I guess now if I ever decide to "lose" my band, I can get some money back?! Whoa!

How the heck did you find that on Ebay? I just checked it out..too funny...whoever wins it, I hope they have a good qualified surgeon to put it in ;)

Very interesting!

A band friend lead me to it... I think it's crazy, personally. I remember a while back someone on here said that if they got desperate, they'd be breaking out a butcher knife and putting a twist-tie around their stomache themselves...well, here's your chance! Yikes!

On another note, what qualified surgeon would feel comfortable putting in a supposidly "new" but technically opened/used band? Yikes, again! ;)

Surely the people bidding on this are going to use it for teaching purposes?! I hope!! Just goes to show you, you can buy or sale anything on Ebay!

ok, so i do think this is funny, but, does anyone else think this is wrong? or better yet, scary? i'm a little worried about the bidder and their intentions. it occured to me that perhaps this bidder (or the people buying things like this) might be buying them FOR a doctor to place, not just as a patient... what made me think this you might ask? well, when I was snooping around and seeing what else these bidders have/are bidding on, they bought other medical products as well, like an endoscopy machine, etc. this thought is truly scary to me... anyone else?

HOw CRAZZYYYYY? %$#@#$%% I certainly hope that a certified Doctor would never put it in. But than again- what if it is perfectly OK??? What if this person gets it for min. & saves virtually $3000.00? HMMMM - I don't know? What I do know is it wouldn't be me> LOL LOL LOL

Now the SCARY thought is.. as money hungry as American Doctors have become, one could buy it for $65 and charge the insurance co... oh let me see... $50,000!

Next thing you know, we'll have a band hacker, sitting up shop in his garage, LOL. OMG, that's scary!

This is exactly what entered my mind. Some crazy nut job calling himself a Doctor & preying on a despert overweight person & leading them around the back of the house!!! OMG!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
