Marina Del Rey Hospital Fees

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I was just wondering if anyone had their surgery at Marina Del Rey Hospital in California. My insurance is Blue Shield of California and I have to pay 10% of the hospital fees. So I am kind of looking for a number that I need to be saving for. My surgeon is Dr. Atul Madan.

Thanks!!

Amanda

You might consider calling the billing department and telling them the procedure you are having and the expected cost. They should'nt be suprised. People are actually recommended to check on pricing at different hospitals for procedures. There was a national news story last year that highlighted the cost of Medical procedures here in NH. Rates varied by as much as 100%! Yes, full sized hospitals not clinics.

I didn't have mine there, mine was done at UC Irvine, but, I just got my bill last week, Which is for about $2,500 for the surgery, and another $480 for anesthesia (the actual drugs, the doc was included in the other bill)

The original bill says $29,829 for "surgery/recovery," $1,958 for anesthesiology, $1,479 for drugs, $83 for lab, $1,125 for observation. Then it says $25,949 insurance discount.. I'm not clear how this all works, or why it was so high, but after they sorted it out w/ my insurance the $2,522 was left for me to pay, and the extra anesthesia bill.

I have Anthem Blue Cross PPO.

Couple of things:

1) The billed amount is never/rarely what the collected amount is, so determine what amount the 10% is -- the billed or reimbursed amount?

2) The anesthesiologist will bill out at around $1500 but will be reimbursed/paid anywhere from $550-900. Insurance...it's a screwy system and the physicians have zero control over setting a price for their services, hence the "bill high because insurance reimburses low" method of billing.

3) I practiced at the Marina and have worked w/Dr. Madan for these cases; I have a high regard for his skill. He also works at local surgi-centers, where I am now.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
