Able to eat more than I thought

Recommended Posts

When I was only two days post-op I was ravenous!! I began the liquid diet, and still STARVING. I added some pureed foods, still starving. It's been two weeks since my surgery and I've added soft foods. I feel like I can eat too much food. I chew slowly and until all the food is applesauce consistency, but I feel like I should only be able to eat a bout a half a cup to one cup of food and feel full. I can eat more. It really scares me that I can eat that much. Has anyone else experienced this issue?

It's okay. You are still in the healing stage and have not had your first adjustment yet. Be sure to eat your Protein always first and chew it, but do not over chew otherwise it will just slide thru. Make wise food choices and hang in there. Do you have an appointment for an adjustment yet, usually about week 6? Also you should be able to call and talk to a nurtritionis for support to help get you through. Best wishes!

It's not the case.. you may not always feel full, especially at first, and it's 100% not the same bloated full we would get pre-op when you would eat too much... I know it was a lot different that I expected too, but the band doesn't stop you from eating (if it did everyone would be skinny and nobody would fail). It's basically a diet, learning how to eat properly. The band in the long run, with the fills, will keep you from being hungry all the time, that is it's job. If you were on a 1000 calorie diet without the band you'd be starving all the time. This lessens the blow of being on a diet.

But there is still the mental side of it, you have to physically stop yourself from overeating. (yes the band will stop you from eating like 4 cups of food, but it's still very easy to over eat and not lose weight). For me, my body is never really hungry, I can go 4-5 hours between meals, but my food addiction always wants food!! I have to distract myself and learn that food isn't that important, and I should eat to live. I'm still working on that. But I have gotten a lot better.

Also i know you aren't on solids yet, but make sure you eat hard Protein like chicken, meatballs, tuna that will keep you satisfied longer, because it takes longer to digest and it won't slide right through your band. Also your meals should be mostly Protein that will help too. Also the standard follow the directions!! Watch your calories, and exercise.

I always like to say the band has a hole in it lol!! Food is going to go through.

Thank you! Great advice. I actually am eating solid protiens to fill me. I do eat them first, but I think I may be chewing too much, like you mentioned, because I know I should be on semi soft foods. My first fill is four weeks away. I'll keep hanging on until then. Thanks for taking the time to help.

I don't have an appointment for an adjustment yet. It will be four more weeks before I can get an adjustment. I am chewing my Protein too much. I'm really not supposed to be on solids, but I figured if I chewed them to applesauce consistency then I'd be okay. Thanks for help. I feel better.

I noticed the same thing and I'm not quite 3 weeks post op. Have to keep up the Protein. I still do shakes sometimes too. I figure there is more I don't know about yet, so sticking to the stages. I'm losing weight and I guess in time I will understand fills, etc. I know its a tool. I'm sure fills do make a difference.

This is so helpful! I was just banded on Thursday, Feb. 17, and I feel hungry quite a bit. I am on the liquid stage, with strained creamed Soups and pudding allowed. I will try drinking more Protein Shakes and see if those help the hunger. Given what I was instructed to eat, I figure I am getting about 600-700 calories a day and that just doesn't seem like enough.

Do you eat Beans? They are FILLING and are pretty high in Protein. They may help. 600-700 doesn't sound like enough. Best wishes!

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
