What side is your port on ? Can you choose what side ?

Recommended Posts

I am having my surgery at the end of the month ( self pay Mexico ) I am super nervous about it. I had my gall bladder removed serveral years ago and I have phantom pain on that side still. Can you choose what side your port goes on ?

Also any advise on Dr. Juan Corvala would be great.

I know that most people's port is in the abdomen, but my Dr. places it in the chest. I have a small, thin incision just out from my armpit and the port is just out from it. It is really in a great place I think. Does not interfere with bra strap and will not interfere with a bathing suit this summer. cool.gif I don't know if any other Drs. do this or not, but it is really easy access for fills and was never a bother when sitting of bending since it is not in the abdomen.

Oh and it is on the left side!!

Looking at my navel from the front mine is about 1" to the right and 2" down from my navel itself. So when I look down I see it left and down 2". The Dr. generally places it where it makes the most sense based on your internal anatomy. Some people are better suited for a higher placement, some for a lower placement. All depends. I would definitely ask and mention the issue you currently have. The worst thing he can do is say no.

My port is centered about 1' - 2" below my sternum depending on my position. It has worked very well in that location for me. The surgeon should be the one choosing the location depending on how s/he does the surgery.

I don't know if you can choose the location, but definitely tell your surgeon about the pain you have. It could make a difference in where he places the port.

Mine is on my left side, about 2" to the side of and 1" below the level of my navel. It's fine there unless I wear pants with a waistband that hits it and is tight. That rarely happens, so I have no issues with the placement of mine.

My port is the same place as yours and it's working great for me. I have a friend that has her port just below her rib cage on the left side. I guess it depends on each patient and the surgeons judgement.

I just looked at your blog and found out we have the same surgeon! He is great!! I am 7 weeks post-op and doing great. Just went this past week for my first fill and it was a piece of cake. I am from near Valdosta.

Good luck to you on this journey. I will check on your progress from time to time. rolleyes.gif

My port is on the left side of my stomach. It used to be right beside my belly button but the thinner I got the more it stuck out. I had it moved and now it is under my muscles on the left side.

You can discuss with your doctor the pain you have and see where he usually puts people ports.

wow, i never heard of the port being in the chest area... interesting.

no, i didn't get to decide which band i was going to get or the placement of the port. my surgeon picked my band type and cc size after looking at my stomach during surgery.

my port is to the right of my belly button and up about 2"

mine is about 6 inches up from my belly button, kinda under my breast bone.

Mine is about one inch up and 3 inches over from belly button on the left. If they are going to put it on a side I would def. ask for the one opposite of the one you sleep on. After you are healed it's not an issue but for the first month it will be.

I had my gall-bladder removed about 6 years ago and I haven't had pain in that area for quite awhile (knock on wood), but I'm pretty sure that the pain I was having was from scar-tissue being pulled. Don't be worried about that.

My port is a little to the left about 2 inches above my navel.

I thought my port was on my left side below my rib cage but it is actually about 4 inches up from my belly buton and 2 inches over on the RIGHT side, which i guess having them on the right is kinda unusual but its not to bad.

I have no idea where my port is, but I am assuming that because the largest incision is on the right side of my belly 4 in up from navel and 2 in to the right that it is there??? I am only 4 days post op and that is the most sore area I have.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
