How long did you wear your compression garment (CG), girdle...?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Though I've been told that I can stop wearing it, I can't seem to stop wearing the darn thing. I actually feel more comfortable with it - PS said that it wouldn't hurt to continue wearing it, so I hope to wean myself at some point - at least before the weather gets hot. Just curious, how long did you guys wear your garment? Did you experiece separation anxiety? :(

Thanks in advance for your replies.

I never had to wear one. This is the first I have heard of wearing a garment like that. You may just be afraid of pulling/hurting yourself without it on. Just take it slow...don't wear it for a few hours every day and then try a whole day around the house without it. When you are ready you can be free of it :)

I think I wore mine at night for a long time because I would have pain in the groin area if I didn't, but only when I was laying on my side. Weird. Anyway, I almost felt more protected with it on. Maybe because so much of that area was numb for a long time. Anyway, I think I stopped wearing it after about 3 months.

My PS also told me to wean myself off it - Then he followed by 'some people seem to wear it for three months' So I decided that I would be one of the some people and I wore mine for 3mths :-)

I felt protected with it on and I also noticed when I took it off I swelled up by two inches at first - Then after three months it settled at one inch bigger than my compressed size - I wasn't hapy about that... But I got used to it. LOL

I forgot to mention that my PS said I could wear it when ever. The Recovery Room Nurse where I had my surgery also had a TT years ago after 6 kids and still likes to wear hers when she gets her period.

I found after my tt my stomach felt weird because it was numb. Therefore I felt more comfortable wearing my wrap. I wore mine for the first 6 weeks 24/7. Then i started to wear it when I was out ( moving around the most) and at night.

Slowly by 3 months I stopped wearing it but then had some changes made and I am wearing it again. Right now I have one on 24/7 and it's been just over a month.

Thanks so very much for your responses, I'll give it another month (3 months out) then start to seriously wean myself of it.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
