Sombra1718 55 Posted February 16, 2011 How do you control yourself when you spend days away from home. I ask because I went to spend four days at my parent's house and I even took my own food with me but I still ended up eating what my mother cooked instead. That lead to bigger portions and foods that I have been trying to wean myself off of before my surgery. I know self control is the biggest part of this or so it seems...but I was wondering what yall tell yourselves when your faced with these situations?
mattie7632 24 Posted February 16, 2011 I was bad today. We have bad days, I guess we have to just carry on tomorrow. One thing I've figured out is that I have to eat something that keeps me full....while the band does it's part--certain foods like some Soups make me want to snack more and then I do bad. If I eat something like oatmeal and tuna, filling Protein stuff, I do better. It's a learning experience and I'm pretty sure I've just started

JourneyGirl 10 Posted February 16, 2011 I had my nutrition class last night and she told us that one good thing to do it find a Protein Bar that you really like. Cut it into bite size pieces and put in a baggie in your purse. This way if you are somewhere that does not have good food choices then you can at least have your Protein in w/ your bar. I know that you can't do this for 4 days, lol, but it's an idea for when we are out and not in control of the food.< /p>
honk 780 Posted February 16, 2011 So difficult! When I go to my sisters I use her food scale. She does'nt weight the food she eats. Instead she is Martha Stewart incarnate and does a lot of fancy cooking and weighs the ingrediants. I weigh out the Protein and then eat small portions of everything else. Since it's your mother's house could you bring Greek yoghurt for Breakfast? For Breakfast I have Chobani fat free greek yoghurt with a half scoop of vanilla whey isolate, Splendra and 1/8 cup Cereal. That would be pretty easy to bring with you. Bring powder and Cereal in seperate baggies. This way you could control one meal a day. Also, unless it's a meal I just don't partake in Snacks, grazing behavior that others may be doing.
Sombra1718 55 Posted February 16, 2011 Ah yes...those were some of the things I DID do: I didn't snack and I ate what I took for breakfast...it was just the big cooked meals that messed me up. I was able to stay with just one portion per meal but the portions were too big. But this was my first time away from home while I'm trying to learn these new habits. I guess if you really look at it I didn't do that horribly.
Jachut 487 Posted February 17, 2011 I dont have any forbidden foods, I would just eat what was served, in small portions. Just because someone puts it on your plate, doesnt mean you have to eat it all. Generally speaking, a small plate of food three times a day, no matter what's on it, is not going to make you fat. You'd be hard pressed to fit more than 600 calories on a small plate and even if you dont lose for a couple of days, its not going to be thousands and thousands of calories too much. Snacking and seconds and huge portions are what make people fat. You still have to live in the real world with a band and to me, that doesnt mean stressing over the odd meal you cant control.
