31 single and banded

Recommended Posts

Hi all! How does everyone deal with being single and banded. I sometimes fear that being banded could be a turn off... what does every one else think?

If it's a turn off then oh well the guy isn't worth your time! thats what I think! If you tell them that you have the band they should be supportive and respect what you've gone through and are currently going through. I've recently found myself on the dating scene after breaking up with my boyfriend of more than a year and i've been very up front about having the lapband and so far they've respected my decision and have even given me kudos for taking charge of my life.

I have only been on 2 dates since being banded last year and it was no problem. I was up front that I will not be eating a lot because of it. One person said good I can order you a happy meal then you are a cheap date! NOT! LOL!

I was banded before I started dating my husband. He knew about it from the very start, and was extremely supportive. Now he even knows all the bandster terms and claims I have a "stuck" face! LOL! If the guy is worth it, he will take the time to understand your band and why you have one. I would be upfront about it, because any guy who would be turned off by you having a band should be crossed off your list of potential husbands!

@notturningback11 I have been called a cheap date too. It's funny to me. @happiness1, I date... It's not a first date conversation for me. It shouldn't be an issue. For those I have told they have always been supportive. I think it was harder for me to accept than it has been others. Once I get past all of my insecurities dating will be a breeze. Good Luck!

I guess I'm deceiving. Never in my life have I had the attention I do now and Spanx happens to be my partner in crime. I'm at a loss though...I have plenty of first and second dates then dismiss them because I know that what they see isn't ever going to be what they get. It took me forever, and hundreds of pounds lost on my own to finally get this surgery....I have issues woth people (as well as myself) thinking I'm simply out of control.

I know something needs to change but for now I'm ok with just being wanted for the first time ever. We'll see how long that lasts!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
