have you seen a video of the surgery?

I haven't had surgery yet, but I refuse to watch it! I have passed the stills on youtube but I feel if I watch it I won't go through with it. I watched a adonectomey (sp?) AFTER my daughter had it done and I cried! My surgeon provided me with the scope of my knee and again I cried! I. Am. A. Wimp. I am woman enough to admit it.

Have you seen a video? Going to watch before or after your surgery?

Watched MANY presurgery. I do NOT like to watch surgery videos. They don't make me cry more want to be sick. The thing is the surgery is done with a cauterizing tool which means they are kind of burning threw tissue rather than cutting it. There is almost no blood. It's almost surreal because it does'nt even seem like surgery.

Personally I think everyone should watch these videos. It shows you exactly why you need to follow the post op diet. The surgeon places the band and then sews a piece of stomach above the band to a piece of stomach below he band. Until it heals you do not want the stomach churning and dislodging the band. Also the first one I watch they flipped this body part out of the way in a pretty cavalier way. I though what the heck was that? It was the liver. Lesson 1) the liver shrinking diet is for a reason; they fold that baby right over!

Lap Band sends you the tape when you hook up with your surgeon, and they want you to see what your getting into. Tons of info ! My surgeon told me when it comes, make sure you watch it ! I was glad I did.

i didn't watch any videos before my surgery. i hadn't thought about it back then but i don't know if it would have changed my mind either.

i've watched a couple since my surgery and it wasn't bad but i didn't get any benefit from it that i didn't get from the drawn pictures lol

It definitely helps to watch the surgery to understand what's going to happen to you. It will remind you why you need to listen to your Dr and take it easy the first 4-6 weeks.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
