No one's getting banded today so I figured I'd ask how everyone is doing that's been banded already. I'm doing good. Eating regular foods... have been for a while.. I'm definitely not as hungry as I was before I got banded. I still need to start exercising..It's just really hard for me to get started. I ordered a bunch of different Protein powders that will come tomorrow so I can make sure I get enough protein in everyday. I'm really not keeping track which isn't good..but I'll figure it out. I'm still swollen where my port is..I wonder how long it will be before that goes away..I suppose sometime before my 6 weeks cuz that's when I get a fill.

Just wanted to check in and see how everyone else is doing. :D

Going ok here! Still sore which is to be expected, still on liquids but get to start soft/mush tomorrow... Excited about that! Tired of looking at these ugly steristrips on my belly!! Itching pretty good too which means they r healing..

Just walked around Kroger and picked up a few grocerys and some more designer whey to get in my Protein...

I have my first fill scheduled for march 11.... Go back to work on Thursday if I'm moving around good!!

Still kinda can't believe it's done!?!

Major achievment note I was able to sleep on boths sides last night.:Banane21: finally got a good nights sleep and life is looking better every day. Still don't want to eat, thats really strange cause I do love good food. I guess I should count that as a small blessing at this stage and discuss it with my surgeon at todays follow up O.V.

Hope that everyone else is recovering nicely and the optimism is high. Good luck to us all.:welldoneclap:

I am 8 days out and feeling pretty good. Not much discomfort. Back to work yesterday and so far so good. I do miss my afternoon nap though!;)

I am not too hungry and I find it hard to get all my food in. I am in meetings all day and find I am eating too fast. I just started mushies yesterday...that was a thrill. I tried talking my hubby into getting me a valentines day cupcake and blending it up with some milk...good thing he didn't fall for it.

I do honestly feel that I am thinking about food all the time now. It's hard to prepare and plan and concentrate on what, when and where I am eating. I feel slightly obsessed by it.

Got on the scale today and it hasn't moved. I think my scale must be broken...:P It is a pretty crappy scale so I'm just going to wait until I meeti with the good Dr next week.

Smokey, I haven't started to to any activity either. Not sure why it's so hard to get my arse off the couch and take a walk or something. The gym in my apt building is amazing and its only two floors down from me...TWO FLOORS...so lame!!! I need to work on this one!!!:(

All in all doing pretty good so far!

Peace~

Ally

I was doing pretty good until today. Ive lost 10lbs since surgery last Monday. But I had a mtg today and got tuna, it went pretty well got fun after about 2-3 oz. So then My mom cooked chicken I tried a piece of that and it also went well. Then I ate a cookie, that also went down. I'm so made at myself though. I wasn't even hungry, I was just falling back into old habits and eating because I could.

I realized that the band really is a tool, but I have to get my mind back in the game...

I suck!

Glad everyone seems to be recovering well. I am still in preop and just thought I'd ask you all...my dr.'s orders for post surgery are 1 week Clear Liquids, 1 week creamy liquids, then 2 weeks pureed foods...then...on week 5 soft foods. I'm not exactly sure what soft foods is?? Sounds like you all are moving on much faster...anyone else have a post op diet like that? or is my dr just ultra conservative.

in the food and nutrition section in the general lap band talk there is a food list for all stages its a suggestion of course since your dr should tell you all the foods that are good or bad. but i used that for a good guideline. hope that helps!

Soft foods is really anything that isn't fibrous that you will be able to chew well.

Your doctor is following the guidelines of the band manufacturer, most likely, along with his own observations. I am not sure why some doctors either ignore this advice, or their patients do. I believe to have success with the band you have to start out the right way. I'm not sure whose mom fixed chicken for them and they just had surgery Monday--that just does not seem like a good idea AT ALL. I would imagine any doctor would say so, but I'm not a doctor myself, so what do I know?

Stick to your doc's advice even though it is tempting to watch others move forward. Your stomach is going to be swollen for a while, and your band needs to stay in place.

Remember--the #1 cause for slippage is not following the eating guidelines. That means this early on.

My Dr. is ultra conservative too. I'm on liquids for 4 weeks (My instructions were "Anything you can drink through a straw".) Then purees for 2 weeks and and "soft foods" for another 2 weeks. It's HARD not eating anything, I have cheated a tiny bit (2 oz of chicken salad, soupy mashed potatoes) but I am doing my best. I have lost 19lbs and dropped a jeans size! YAY for that!

Korilynn are you still on preop? I'm on day 8 today and while I wouldn't say it's easier it is going by pretty quickly. I do have a special dinner I bought tickets for before I had my date so I have been very faithful to my 2 week diet knowing that that one night I would at least allow myself to eat the Protein they served for the dinner...atleast that would be protein  I've only told one of the people I'm going with about the surgery so I'm just going to eat a little bit. I am ok with my dr's conservative side...hoping that will aide in everything going smoothly and healing well!

I had my surgery last Thursday, Feb. 17, and am doing well so far. The part of the surgery that I was really unprepared for was the gas pain afterwards! The incisions were fine - I had morphine about 6 hours after surgery and that was it - I haven't needed any pain meds since. But the gas pain that everyone talks about in your left shoulder is the worst. It is starting to decrease and I think that all the walking I have been doing is really starting to help.

The post-op liquid diet is pretty miminal... 4 Tbsps of Soup and 4 Tbsps of pudding twice a day, 8 oz Protein shake twice a day, and 8 oz of Crystal Light twice a day. I do feel hungry, but I think I should ramp up my Protein shakes so I ease that hunger. I am supposed to be on this for two weeks, but do you guys think there is any chance my surgeon will let me start on pureed foods since I am doing well? Or is it more about the band healing in place before I begin anything pureed?

And does anyone burp a lot after eating? Am I eating too fast or does everyone experience that?

I love this forum - thank you all!!

I had my surgery 3 days ago, Friday, Feb. 18th in the AM. To recap the last 3 days: Day of surgery - was in a little pain from the incisions but the meds helped, was also in pain from the gas pains - had them in my shoulders, chest, back and even my stomach I think. Drank a little Soup, tea and Water at the hospital and then was discharged around 8 PM. Got home and had more Water and drank half a Protein shake - BIG mistake! Day 1 is too early for a Protein Shake but I didn't realize that. So Day 2: Woke up with a ton of gas pain and extremely neaseus. Was dry heaving so badly I had to go into the ER for anti-nausea meds and IV fluids. Felt much better after. Day 3: Feeling much better today. Had water, 2 cups broth, tea and Popsicle. Gas pain is much better and my incision pain is minimal.

My questions now are:

Did anyone else have nausea as bad as I did? Did it go away for good after Day 3?

what else can I have on Day 4? Is pudding ok? Tomato Soup? Jello? Applesauce?

What else have pol eaten that has gone down ok?

Thanks so much! This is so helpful!!

When did everyone take off their outer bandages?

I didn't have the nausea as badly, but I had to stay overnight in the hospital and they wouldn't let me have more than a small sponge dipped in water for the first day, just to moisten my mouth. On the morning after surgery (Friday) I had an upper GI to make sure the band was correctly in place and after that they let me drink a few sips of hot tea and beef broth - they said to aim for 1 ounce within 15 minutes. And now that I am home I am on a diet of fat free, sugar free pudding, low fat strained cream Soups, no sugar added carnation instant Breakfast, 100% apple juice, and crystal light. I am eating or drinking about every 60-90 minutes, and no more than 2 oz within a 15-30 minute period. I think sugar free Jello is fine too!

I have bandages covering the Steri-strips, and I was told I could take those off after 2 days and then the strips will fall off on their own.

I had my surgery Feb 17th. I had lapband, gallbladder removal and hiatal hernia repair all at the same time. I knew I was going to have the gallbladder removed but didn't even know I had the hernia. Finding it hard to get enough Water in. But I am doing ok.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
