Surgery on 12/22 and feeling a sharp stomach pain

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery 12/22 and everything went well. I have felt pretty good since with good weight loss. But I worked the other night and since then have had a sharp pain in my stomach. Sometimes it is okay, but other times when I touch the area or sit in a certain position it hurts. The pain is on the left side of my stomach, high up (close to top of ribs). The pain is so tender to the touch, I don't like pressing it.

Did anyone else experience a pain (maybe actual stomach/pouch that might be inflamed, or something else in my belly)? My surgeon is about 1000 miles away, but I will see him in a few weeks. I don't want to call unless it is something really abnormal.

No. I can feel my port right under my big incision. This pain I think is coming from my pouch. It hasn't been like this since recently, so I am not sure what is going on. No problem getting my mostly Clear Liquids down.

Hmmmmm....... I really don't know then. I think i remember someone else posting a similiar pain recently. I'll see if I can find it for you. It may take me a while.

You are so nice! Do you remember any key words and I can search too? I tried stomach pain, but I didn't see anything really. I don't think it is gas, but I just took some Gas X, and it is so tender to the touch. Hmmm...

Yeah. Thank you so much. I am thinking I am swollen in my stomach and it is causing tenderness. I am just going to take it easy.

Have had a heating pad on for about 30 minutes and it definitely helps! Thank you again.

Jessicazzi,

Maybe the pains are hunger???!! Remember how your stomach would hurt when you were "starving"? I just got banded 1.3.06 and I had those sharp pains. They are gradually going away, but I still feel them now and then.

Just a thought. Hope you are better today.

I searched for Left side pain and found this thread. I was banded 1/16/06 and the last few days have started with this pain under my ribs on the left side.

How is the OP doing, and what did you find out?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
