A bit depressed...

Recommended Posts

I am 7 weeks post op and can pretty much eat anything WHICH I DREAD.. I am finding that I am eating more, and returning to seeking out sweets every night. I REALLY HATE THIS. I have hit a plateau (around 26lbs lost so far and would like to lose more but can't shake this feeling. When I eat something I know shouldn't have, I just think about regaining all the weight I lost, yet I still want to eat something sweet. I feel really guilty about it and say I'll do better the next day, but still I end up eatin something sweet again. Is anybody else dealing or dealt with this? I want to continue to lose weight. I don't want to fail.

Get rid of all the sweets in your house. If they aren't readily available, you can't have them, right? Also, let yourself indulge. Have a sweet snack once or twice a week but limit it to that. Weightloss doesn't mean not eating the foods you enjoy. I have Reese's on occasion. Why? Because I like them. I know one isn't going to stall me. Allow yourself to enjoy something sweet every now and then; maybe it'll help your cravings.

I deal with it on a daily basis !!! But can tell you that I have had a sweet almost every single night since I was banded... Now it's a sf fudgesicle or sf pudding

Clean your house out of anything that temps you and that you can not contorl... Get rid of the candy... If it's not around you can't eat it..

The band is going to do NOTHING about your food cravings - it's only going to restrict the amount of hard Protein you can eat - I can eat a whole bag of candy if I wanted to - it's a slider - I could eat a gallon of ice cream if I wanted too - it's a slider..

So just exercise your gray matter - remember why you just had major surgery - was it to continue to eat the way you ate pre-banding - did you just have surgery to continue to eat crap.. The decision is yours - it's up to you as to what you eat - your band is never going to make your food choices for you...

Here's what I did to conquer my sweet cravings. I bought some really yummy Gummy Multivitamins and Calcium w/vitamin D. Every night a couple of hours after dinner, I sit down to eat my "treat". My mind knows it's the required Vitamins, but my tongue thinks it's candy! So far it's working like a charm. (When I go get them from the pantry, I say to my husband, "time for my goodies").

I feel like I am not "finished" eating until I have something sweet. Totally based on my experience with food growing up. We always had dessert immediatly following a meal. Before banding I took Benecol caramel chews to reduce cholesterol. I find them really good to close out to a meal. You could try Alpine Suger Free hot cider (powder) for an evening "snack". I also take a couple Fiber chews at night for a treat.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
