Try to stick to your diet; we all have to follow it for a reason. Even though you're chewing your food to a "mushy" texture, the fact is that your stomach still has to work harder to digest and process the food you're eating. The whole point of the post-op diet is to gradually introduce real food back into your diet so that your stomach has the proper time to heal.

Go back to your post-op rules. Though you're not gaining, you're also not giving your stomach a chance to heal from pretty invasive surgery. Also, post-op is really the best time to start building up your willpower. If you can't stick to your post-op diet, how're you going to stick to eating the right foods later on in time?

Just my 2 cents. Best of luck!

Stop !!!! Your stiches are healing there is a reason for not eating - follow your doc's orders - you could be setting yourself up for trouble down the road.

try, try, try to stick to the doctor prescribed post-op diet!!! it's so vitally important to your health and the health of your band!

i'm sure you knew coming into this that it was going to be hard but honestly, it's not going to get easier for awhile.

just make sure you get back on track tomorrow! we ALL have been through the pureed stage and the mushie stage... you can do it!!!

Stick to what you've been told to do. You've been told it for a reason. Presumably you got banded because you are ready and willing to change, so now's the time to start. Get back onto your program, put this behind you and stick with it from now on.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
