newlifekp 0 Posted February 14, 2011 I was taking it before surgery, stopped it 4 weeks before surgery. I am 6 weeks post op and just talked to my surgeon about resuming it last week during my 2nd fill. He feels that if I can avoid taking it and still have a good quality of life, he would prefer that I don't start it again. NSAIDS are on the 'do not take' list because of the harshness on the stomach lining (also bummed that NYQUIL was on the list!). For me, I have minor joint pain that is not getting any worse (is probably better most days), so I have decided to not take it again. However, if I had a lot of joint pain (I am not sure how you are doing), I would probably resume taking it again and just ask my doctor how we can monitor whatever we need to watch. Good luck! BirdGirlEm 1 Posted February 14, 2011 Just wanted to see if anyone is taking Celebrex post surgery, misspelled Celebrex previous poll........sorry Lori My surgeon's office only gives Celebrex for post-op pain, no narcotics at all. I have asthmas so avoid NSAID's, and had some other pain issues that needed to be treat, so I didn't take the Celebrex. It is easier on the stomach than other NSAID's like the long lost Vioxx was. If you can, eat a little something with them to avoid irritating the stomach pouch... but short term should not be a problem.
honk 780 Posted February 14, 2011 Perscription strength NSAIDS. Ugggg. This year a medical journal came out with a study that people who took NSAIDS (esp. perscription) increased the chance of stroke and heart attack. At 39 after being on a perscription NSAID I had a stroke for 11 months. The doctors really did'nt have a reason why (though of course they brought up my weight). After reading this research (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1473048/) I am convinced this was involved with my having a stroke. Even though my doctor said I could take NSAIDS I have'nt taken one since.
