2+ years post-surgery and scared!

Recommended Posts

Hi all -

I am looking for some advice here. I am 2 years, 4 mos post-surgery, and have done fantastic until now. My last fill was about 5 months ago, and I only really go in for a "top-off" about once a year.

About 10 days ago, I noticed that I was having much more restriction than normal. Well, it has now progressed to the point of barely being able to get Water down. I do have an appointment with my surgeon next Thursday, but am thinking I need to beg to be seen tomorrow. I am scared.

Has anyone had any experience with this? Of course, my mind is thinking slippage, erosion, etc.

I also seem to have acid reflux going on, so have been taking Zantac. I am hoping/praying it's just swelling from acid reflux - fingers crossed.

Please help with any advice / experience that any of you may have had with this situation!

Kristine

Yes, please ask to be seen tomorrow. Besides an unfill the doc may want to do an endoscopy or Upper GI to rule out a slip. I lived with your symptoms much too long and almost lost my band.

Best wishes,

Mimi

I would call for sure. Tell them you need to be seen on an emergency basis. I hope it didn't slip but you should have it checked out for sure.

Make them see you ASAP. I had the same problem for 2 weeks. I am now unfilled and having revision surgery for slippage. They said that sometimes an unfill can help it get back in place, but mine was too bad for that. It took them forever to schedule me because of the snow we had here. I think the delay from when I first had the problem caused the bad slippage. I put myself on liquids for a few days and stopped having anything (even water) after 6pm b/c I could not sleep with the reflux and the vomiting. I don't want to scare you, but make them see you ASAP. Tell them you can't keep anything down for days now.

Thank you for your responses. I did get in yesterday to see my doc. They took out a lot of Fluid, and I am doing sooooo much better. Turns out that I just have been compounded the issue with trying to eat solids and getting stuck, which in turn caused a little ulcer and swelling. So, hopefully after a few weeks of taking it easy, I can get a fill and get back to normal. I am so relieved!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
