My Biggest Fear Is Coming True . . .

Recommended Posts

Six weeks postop . . . still 14 lbs. down . . . the same 14 that were gone 1 week after surgery from the liquid diet. Made it through lap band hell and had a fill. That gave me some restriction, but no weight loss . . . I'm still snow covered, going through a recent separation, hence the depression. Not too much energy to exercise with all of this stress! Thanks for listening. I'm starting to think I made a mistake and should have gotten the sleeve. HELP????

Aww, i'm sorry you are going through this. Don't regret your decision. Give it some more time. Remember stress keeps weight on you also.

Stress does amazing things to us!! Give it a little more time. You will look back and figure out it was just all of the stress you were going thru!! Yeah the weather is bad out. I am a swimmer and have my own pool..but can't use it now obviously (I do live in Florida so it won't be long). Try going to the mall or somewhere it is indoor and you can walk. Walking is one of the best ways of getting exercise!! You don't really hit your sweet spot until the 3 or 4th fill and that is when you really feel restriction. Keep you head held high, try to stay as positive as you can and keep focused on the big picture. You can do this and it will pay off in the long run!!

Hang in there...for most of us it takes several fills. Remember, it's not the number of fills but the quantity. The band does have a little more 'work' involved at first due to needing fills, but at the end of 2 years, sleeve and band patients are comparable as far as success and weight loss...and band patients didn't have to chop up their insides. We (band patients) have a slower start because we go through a learning process along with getting the fills.

"All great achievements require time."

I agree that stress can cause issues with weight. Sometimes there are things in life that cause us stress and we have little control over them. It is at those times we need to take control and get our minds in the game. Sometimes our body just needs to adjust to all the changes and it will stop losing weight. Hang in there and keep your mind on what you need to do for yourself. Best wishes to you.

I'm starting to think I made a mistake and should have gotten the sleeve. HELP????

I too had that same thought! But am so HAPPY I got my band. I am now almost 6 mos post op am down 28lbs that I never would have been able to get rid of with out it...Sure the sleeve may give me faster results but at what cost?

I'm just glad I got the band and before you know it you will to...Dont give up HOPE the weight will come off..

Look at me I hardly follow the band rules I dont drink my Water or exercise but the weight is coming off.

I'm not saying this is the way it should be done because I know that I'm a slacker and lazy and could lose SO much more if I do what is right but the band only works if you WORK IT!

So hang in there it gets better and easier!

Don't panic. I vascillate between regret and joy almost daily. I had a slow start despite exercising 5x week and following the rules of the band. I'm four months in now and have lost 35 lbs. Thats amazing! The first 20 was in the first 3 weeks and the last 15 was in the past month. It comes in spurts, I had to get back to basics and start keeping a food diary, planning my meals and drinking tons of Water one hour before and one hour after eating. My second fill made a;ll the difference for me. Its different for everyone.Vow to change 1 little behavior each week. The band and the sleeve are both just tools to assist us as we follow a careful plan for eating and exercise. Whe I feel doubtful or discouraged, this site always helps. Its easy to feel alone. Why not set a time each day to log on and read the first ten threads. You will find yourself more relaxed and confident daily. Good luck and good choices to you!:)

Give it some time. My weight loss slowed down a bit, but it's not too bad. It's healthier for it to come off slower. Hang in there. Try just walking at first. I started off slow myself. ...and walking is actually a really good exercise. You can do it.

The first little while it might take some getting used to having the band before you love it. Just think if you got the sleeve you might have regretted it and wished you had gotten the band.

I think we have all been there. Been stressed, not losing lots of weight, regreting our decisions etc.

Heck I have been there a few times and even considered getting the sleeve again after my first band complications. However I love my band and decided tostick with it even when I could have changed to the sleeve.

Keep your chin up things will get better. Just remember atleast your not gaining weight :)

I am feeling your concern. I have not lost weight since the preop diet and at my first fill I was up 1 pound since surgery. I am not going to give up and you dont either. There are some that lose weight faster than others and we are in that percentile that doesnt lose it as fast. Continue to do what you are doing and I really think the food dairy will help us both.

Oh goodness! Your first 6 weeks are to heal - not lose weight! Don't stress over it! I think I had actually gained a few lbs during my 6 weeks post op as I wasn't worrying about weight loss at all....my doc stressed that you have to give your body time to heal properly. And it wasn't until my second fill that I started losing well ---- so it could be another couple of months for you depending on how often your doc gives you fills and when you find your "sweet spot". This is the hardest part of the band - but if you are patient and hang in there you will see great results! Don't get frustrated this early in the game!

Good luck!

Kim

This was my biggest fear as well .. what if I can't loose weight even with the surgery? Ugh what a looser I would be. So it's not pouring off but it is happening .. very slowly. It's been 5 months and am down 40 pounds .. granted not a lot but definately 40 pounds I wouldnt have done on my own. I still don't have much restriction and frankly the 40 has been done thru basically dieting just like preband. I just keep reminding myself how long it took to put it on (approx. 15 years) so giving my band just a few months before giving up on it isn't fair. (which I swear I do 3-4 times a week)

I also recently took a realistic look and asked myself if I was doing my end of the bargain at 100%. Like any diet / lifestyle plan if you only kinda do it, it only kinda works.

I'm pretty much in the same boat; still stuck at the 20lbs I lost from presurgery diet and 1st week after surgery (and fighting to maintain it). I FINALLY get my first fill next week. Been fighting a lot with my husband; he's become really distant and I feel we might be headed towards a seperation. Having a raelly hard time fighting the urge to return to the emotional eating. I've been looking for a therapist but they're taking their sweet time getting back to me. I was snooping around (I know, bad of me) and I found something where my husband wrote if I fail at losing weight he'll divorce me; makes me want to cry just typing it. I'm so tired of being seen as a failure; why can't I be ok the way I am? I'm sorry, I'm not trying to take over your post, I'm just really sad right now...

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
