post op travel

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I am new to this site. I was banded 02/07 and so far so good. Right now I am in full liquids. Not much of an appetite physically although I still have the same old food cravings. Next weekend I will be traveling out of town. 15 hour bus trip and then 3 days at hotel. I am looking for ideas of foods I can bring with me that will travel well. The purpose of the trip is my daughter's cheer competition which means I will be on the run most of the day. The only food available at the convention center will be stadium type food so it is definately going to be a challenge. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Oh, this might be tough, but you can do this. I am going to make an assumption that you will have moved to mushies by then. Things you should be able to find to eat in the morning would be scrambled eggs. As far of things to pack - take a cooler with ziplocks for ice to replenish daily. Pack cottage cheese, tuna salad, chicken salad, egg salad, greek yogurt and don't hesitate to use Protein Shakes to get you through the weekend. Prepackage stuff into individual servings so you can grab and go. Have a primary cooler at the hotal and a small carry cooler with you during the day when you are out. And of course don't forget your Water and liquids.

You go Girl! It is all about planning ahead (been there and have to do it again).

I agree with a previous poster to bring your own food and coolers. You won't find mushies at stadium stack bars. I would bring at least 3 ready to drink Protein Shakes per day. How about the individual serving applesauce containers, they are available now in several flavors.

String cheese is great, too. It's high in Protein and tasty. It's not blended, but it's still a soft food.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
