I don't, but my nutritionist recommended chewing half a piece if I want to.

Wanted to see if anyone out there chews sugar free gum? Have read that bander's shouldn't chew gum due to the possibility of swallowing the gum and getting stuck in the stomach opening. Thanks

I chew sugar free gum everyday!!!!

I chew 10-12 pieces a day with no problem except gas from swallowing air, I am addicted to the stuff and have never yet swallowed a piece. My practice has no restriction against it.

My surgeon said no gum. He said should I swallow it and it gets stuck, it means an endoscopy to get it unstuck. I've never been big on gum anyway, so wasn't a big deal for me. I don't want to risk it.

I chew sugar free gum often and have not swallowed gum since I was a kid. I would be much more concerned for those who swallow pills.< /p>

I chew it every day, as long as you don't swallow it you're fine. The action of chewing gum will produce more gas though so be prepared for some belching.

I chew it, not too often, I'm just scared I might die if I swallow it LOL! It doesn't seem to give me gas problems either.

I was a serious gum chewer prior to my band surgery when they told me i couldn't chew it any more i was very upset. I have always chewed the sugarless. Their reasoning is in case I swallow it too, and i haven't accidently swallowed since i was a kid either, but of course I have a fear of it now because they threatened me lol. They said my surgeon would kill me. I just had a dream the other night that I swallowed a piece haha. :(

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
