It's not so much what I "can" eat......but a question of "why would I want to" eat certain foods. I for one have stopped eating all fast food. Could I? I don't know....probably. But I don't want to......

I do not eat bread, Pasta, potatoes....but that is my choice. I don't feel deprived....and I love the way I feel so much more than how good a burger and fries tastes.

The only thing I am able to eat at sonic is icecream, so I better stay away. Oh, I can drink the iced tea and coffee there.

i'm one of the believers that you shouldn't deprive yourself of any foods, in moderation of course, IF your band lets you.

unfortunately, my band doesn't allow me to eat bread, ground meat or french fries (pizza included). if i try to eat them i throw up.

with that being said, i don't see anything wrong with occasionally eating at Sonic. i usually eat chicken fingers if i have to eat fast food. i usually order a kids meal when i eat out.

I don't deprive either. Funny you should ask about Sonic though, the other day I flew through the drive thru, I did not know what to get so I ordered a large tator tot and a small diet coke. I finished about half the order of the tots, and a few sips of the diet. I was completely satisfied. I don't recommend fast food obviously, but sometimes we're just in a hurry!!

i agree just because we have this surgery doesnt mean that sometimes we are not going to want those fast foods, my nutritionist says its fine from time to time just know when and how much, because i feel we are all human and sometimes you will want that burger or whatever it maybe that you use to like before

Hi people!!!!!

I have to say that once a week I like to have a treat. Whether its chicken wings from pizza hut, or 4 piece chick nuggets with small fry from mcdonalds, or maybe a slice of homemade pizza. I have to really chew my food so I get to enjoy it that much longer. But it helps. Right now, I have lil tiny mini bites rice crispy squares in my cupboard, I allow my self one at a time. I tihnk they are 1inch by 1 inch. Im losing weight and I dont over indulge on my treats. I make them last, most times its that little bit of flavor I need, to get rid of the craving. It works for me, but it may not for others. I found that if I deprived myself of some of the good things I like it made this all that much harder. BUT I will say, I do not eat my mini treats before my meal. Its either in between of right after. Also, when I eat out at my weekly treat spot, its ALWAYS a kids meal with no drink. I drink my Water 1/2 hour before my treat.

B :)

If I eat something that probably isn't a good food choice, I try to make up for it through out the rest of the day. I don't like to eat salads anymore and I'm doing really good at staying away from french fries and cheeseburgers. If I eat a cheeseburger, I don't eat most of the bun. I love chicken nuggets/strips, so I would get those if I went to Sonic.

Yea, I eat everything.. just in moderation. To me, somethings just aren't worth the calories. Like, I don't want a tiny hamburger for 400 calories.. I'd rather eat an entire meal for 400 calories.

Looking at their nutritional content (we don't have sonic here, but some suggestions)...

a Sonic burger has 800 calories... but a Jr. Burger has only 310. But remember all the Condiments have fat and calories

The Grilled chicken salad has 250, plus dressing you can get light ranch for 70, or FF Italian for 25 thats not bad.

Or a grilled chicken wrap is 390 calories.

I don't do sonic (non around me) but I do taco bell usually once a week. I used to get a certsin item and eat half thinking I was "good" on calories...then I happened to look up the nutritional content and was shocked at what I was eating! So now I get a crunchy taco sub the meat for Beans and a little tiny bit of sour cream. im satisfied and its pretty good on the calories. But when I do eat fast food I really try to have lean Protein and low carb veggies for dinner.

I also treat myself once a week to starbucks...then workout an extra half hour that day. Whay can I say my lattes are totally worth the extra work...

If I were single and didn't have to ever feed the family on the way to practice after I get off work, etc, then I wouldn't probably eat fast food....but since I am a working mother of three that isn't realistic in my world, so I have had to find something that I am able to eat in times of time crunch! I have a few favorites most places that are doable....

I guess I don't stress over the calorie content, etc, as much as I try and balance it with my other meals that day and splurge a bit....at Sonic sometimes I get the corndog, b/c I love it, but usually I will eat chicken tenders or a small hamburger without the bun, oh and they have that mini chili frito wrap thing, too....at Wendy's I am a chili addict - LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE their chili! MY kids know if they wanna get me to eat out to suggest Wendys as their chili fills me up and it's got a lot of Protein. LOVE IT! At McDonalds, gag, I usually stick to a yogurt parfait and a chicken nugget or two...I guess you just have to find something doable whereever you are - as there isn't always something that is optimal available. I can't tolerate bread very well, though, which limits my choices!

Good luck!

Kimmy

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
