I completely utterly absolutely blew it

Why does food have such a hold on me? As hard as I have tried I cannot figure it out. I have come to realize that it is an addiction, a VERY STRONG addiction that I cannot overcome as hard as I try. So I went in for my second fill yesterday, was told to have liquids for a few days ect ect. Yeah that worked for one day, today I went out to eat with some friends and ate more than I NORMALLY would have without the band. It wasn't even healthy choices and it sure wasn't liquids...and as I ate it I even thought to myself "ya know this isn't even that good, why am I cheating with this" but I kept eating...and eating...and eating. I HATE IT! I can start off with the best of intentions in the morning and by the time the evening hits those are shot to hell. I tell myself i'll do better tomorrow, or that I will only have Water and a Protein Shake tomorrow but deep down I know that I'll mess that up too. It's funny i'm usually all upbeat, happy go lucky, ms positivity but right now all that's gone and it's a horrible feeling, one that I have not had to this degree before. I am so dissapointed, angry and scared at any damage that I could have done, at myself.

We've have all been in that very same place. I was right there with you tonight. I had done very well all day long..and dang it if I did blow all my good intentions and have a piece of pumpkin cake that I made..I had already ate and in no way was I hungry. I wish I had the info on why food has such a hold on us. But I found some good things tonight about myself. I did exercise for 30 mins, I didn't eat after 7p and I did have 16 ozs of Water this evening. So Callie, we are just going to have to stick together and beat this demon together. Find some good things out of the bad things we do. Tomorrow is a new day to try and break our bad habits.

Your positives are awesome though! Excersize and Water are so important, and tomorrow is a brand-new day; but it's like i've had SO MANY of those already so whats the difference. I know that i'm just in a really bad place right now though a bad attitude and I somehow need to change it. It's nice to know i'm not alone though. I needed it tonight.

I went through this for a long time & still do from time to time. It's part of what got us all here in the first place. Pick yourself up & dust those knees off! & keep working for fills! It sounds to me like you still don't have proper restriction. When you do get to your sweet spot, you can't, or at least you are less likely, to cheat & over eat. But, until you get there, we are all here for you!

food is such a diffiuclt adiction, because we could never smoke another (fill in the blank) and not die. But if we stop eating we die.

I'm sorry you are having such struggles. But every really is a new day and we always have a new chance in the morning, or even late in theday. The band is not all or nothing. It is the best we can do. Sometimes it means that our weight loss is slower than others, and sometimes it means that we gain a little weight. And sometimes, just sometimes, the band works even when we are working against it.

If you were able to eat and eat and eat, you might need even more fill. Trust me when I say you can be too tight to eat anything, but that of course, is way too tight and isn't good.

Courage, and we are here for you

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
