Newbie on Forum ~ 5 months banded

Recommended Posts

Hello my name is Angie,

My husband and I both started our journeys together. He was banded August 2010 and myself Sept 2010. We both are doing well. He is going in for his 2nd adjustment next week and I will be going in March. We excerise as much as possible atleast 3 times a week with our crazy schedules. My question is - we have not lost anything since our last adjustment we lose a few pounds then gain them back. We follow our diets, drink Protein Shake for Breakfast small lunch- grilled chicken, tuna, or baked fish something like that - then the same for dinner. Small portions which we can't each much anyways and seem full. Why the stop in weight loss. Alittle disappointed but I know we are still fairly new and still have a long ways to go. Any suggestions or is this normal in between adjustments. Any input is greatly appericiated.

Thanks

Angie Smith

Angie, everyone is different, so I might be suggesting something that you are already doing....Have you kept a food and exercise journal? What is small? Do you weigh your food? Are you watching carb, fat, Protein intake?

I have found that this is not a one solution fits all process. I have found that I have to keep my protein up and have recently had to adjust my carb and fat intake. I exercise everyday which is hard for me to do as I work long hours and sometimes have to wake up early to get an extra 30 minutes in.

Congrats to you and your hubby!

Hi Angie,

You and I were banded around the same time. My weight loss had come to a screeching halt a couple of weeks ago, and then I just decided to really focus on the exercise. I know it's hard to find the time... but when I make the effort, that's when I see the scale moving again. It looks like you're eating very sensibly - so I'd just try to increase your exercise... and make sure you're drinking a lot of Water.< /p>

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
