Looking for Whey Protein Mix recommendations....

Recommended Posts

Before I spend alot of money on a mix, I am looking for some brand/flavor recommendations. Someone recommended Gold Standard that he got from GNC. I am thinking of sticking with vanilla so I can add other items to it.. I think chocolate might be too fake tasting and I would get sick of it after a while.

Any suggestions are appreciated!

Have you ever tried Spirutein? They have tons of flavors and you can usually get them in individual packets to try before buying a whole tub. If you have a trader joes, whole foods or natural foods store near you - you can get them there.

I am sure they sell them other places but I don't know if you can get them at most regular grocery stores or not.

I like Muscle Milk Light. I try to stray away from powders as I really hated them pre-op, and I hate them now. I also drink Labrada RTD.

I use the GNC Pro Performance 100% Whey and the EAS 100% Whey. They are both pretty tasty in chocolate with a half a banana and some Peanut Butter (I use PB2, the powdered peanut butter)!

I like Syntrax Nectars. (http://www.si03.com/). If you email the company and ask about samples, they used to have a deal where you could buy a sampling of flavors for about $1.00 a packet.

They have a lot of different products, make sure you are looking at the Nectars. Most are 90 calories, 0 carbs and 23 grams of Protein per serving. A few are 100 calories. I've been told that our bodies can't use more than about 25 grams of Protein at a time, so more would just be wasted (waisted?).

I think the nectars are a bit too weak in flavor, so I mix them with Powerade zero or crystal light.. YMMV.

I really like Gold Standard Double chocolate. For vanilla I get Dymatize brand. One thing I would caution about adding things to the vanilla or any flavor really is watching the calories. Esp. if the shake will be a snack vs a meal. FYI I do add half a scoop vanilla to fat free greek yoghurt with fruit that I have everyday for Breakfast (also add splendra as ff greek yoghurt is rather sour). Personally I find Vitamin Shoppe to have better pricing.

I have been using GNC Amplified Wheybiolic Advanced 60. I give you 60 grams of Protein in one shake and I use it to replace eating breakfast. I usually get the chocolate but they have it in an array of different flavors and so far I have been extremely satisfied with it.

I don't usually add anything to my Protein shakes, mainly because of the added calories but also because they tend to be so heavy just by themselves it would be impossible to drink the whole thing!!

Hope you find something you like!! :D

To me, all the powders are gross, every brand, every flavor, it's just grainy, and when you blend it, it gets weird and foamy. I liked the pre-mixed Myoplex Lite the best..

I never mixed anything in though.. the shakes already have a lot of calories.

Dlynn, my nut said the body can only process abt 30 g of Protein at a time...so I wonder about ur shake mix being effective. I'd love to get all my recommended dose of protein for breakfast! Did ur nut recommended that to u?

Hi I use a product called Intergrated and it is whey isolates. it comes in different flavors my favorite is chocolate and Also coffee Ice cream flavored. I'm also from New Jersey

I get mine from Hardcore in Manahawkin, its a nutritional shop. They were really great there they let me taste a lot of different types, and this was one that was good, no after taste, not grainy either. I put it in the Magic bullet and mix it up. its really good. MY nutritionist told me that Unjury is another good product. Its a little costly, and you can only order it online I just received my order last week and it is really good. I just found this other website its called Bariatric eating.com and they sell products there also. I havent tried them yet but I plan on it in the near future. Goood Luck hope this helps a little..

I like DesignerWhey Protein...I get the 4lb jug online for about $40. It has 20 grams of Protein & 100 calories...low on sugar too. I actually enjoy it with skim milk. Mixes very well in my plastic blenderball shaker. I find it in local grocery stores too in case I need it quickly and can't wait for my online order. I also tried Unjury...very, very good but expensive.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
