To Fill or Not To Fill... That is MY question!

Recommended Posts

I'm 2 years post-op. Was doing GREAT (key word here is WAS). Not sure what happened in the last 4 months or so, but I've managed to gain 20lbs :( and I have reflux all the time. I feel like CRAP! I know a majority of it is self inflicted. I'm not necessarily following a good diet - eating too much slider foods - not going to the gym. It's winter in NY and I'm in total couch potato mode!

With the reflux I've been suffering from, I"m just not sure that I should go get a fill and hope that living tight (and possibly not keeping down all those slider foods I've been indulging on) will "fix" my problem. Sure it will probably get some of these 20lbs off, but I just don't think that is the right "fix" for what's going on with me.

Not sure though how else to get myself back to my goal weight and back to better habits.

Very open to any thoughts you guys might have on how to get back on the "band" wagon!

Thanks - and Happy Friday!

If you're suffering from acid reflux I definitely think the no fill option is ideal, though you need to figure out why you're having reflux. Is your band too tight?

I say start yourself over again. Go back to your post-op diet. Follow it to a T to jump start the scale. You know what you're doing wrong, so fix it. Start tracking what you eat. Google/YouTube some workout videos you can do inside that way weather isn't an excuse.

I agree with Reverie. Acid reflux tells me a fill might be a bad idea.

I would add that you could also look for a support group-- either your surgeon or another local surgeon's group and go to a meeting. If you can't find one of those, maybe an OA meeting. To me (and with only a little info), this sounds like a mental issue and not a band issue, if you know what I mean.

The good news is, you caught it at 20 lbs, not 30 or 100. Hit the restart button, do the liquid diet, find a support group, and it will be off in no time.

Yes - is a mental issue more than a band issue. Thank you for making me be honest! I just looked up my dr. office schedule and there is a Post Op Only support group next Thursday... I'll be there for sure!

That's great you are going to a support group. I go just about every month and find it helpfull. I just wanted to stress the importance of excersise. It will really help you loose the 20 pounds you've gained. The benefits are just too great to pass up. I agree it's great you are doing something now and not 50 or 100 pounds from now. You've done it before, you can do it again. Best wishes!

Actually, reflux and eating slider foods are a sign of a need for an unfill. Go to support group and talk about your issues and see if the leader might have some ideas.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
