March 2011 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

I have to say this is a great place to be. When I feel I need a lift-I come here and find support and usually a smile or a laugh. Thanks to all of you for being here. Just can't wait till I get to go shopping for a new bathing suit this summer!!! I have been having one protien shake a day getting myself mentally prepared. going well so far, and the DH is drinking it along with me - I just have to love this guy. :D

I go for my second banding (first one unbuckled) on March 14th. My pre-op diet starts on the 1st so I am enjoying all that I can for now. Not excited about going through surgery again but not excited about being fat for the rest of my life either.

My surgery date is March 21, 2011. It sure has been a long time coming. I started this journey with the medically supervised diet classes in Nov 2009. Due to insurance requirements, I had to endure 12 months of the diet classes. Even when I seen the surgeon on Feb. 1, he told me not to get into a hurry due to my insurance company's history of denials. But to everyone's surprise, the paperwork was submitted on Feb. 10 and approval came on Feb. 18. I have missed feelings of anxiety, excited, and scared just to name a few. Anxious to have pre-op appointment on March 8 to find out what the diet will be. YAY ME!!:)

I am getting banded on March 21st as well! I am self pay so I have not had to go through as many hoops, yet am very nervous/excited as well! My mood fluctuates from estatic to scared everyday! I don't help myself because I seem to look for horror stories everytime I get on the internet!

I have my pre-op appointment this Friday to have some tests run along with learn my 2 week pre-op diet! I cannot believe it is coming up so soon!

I get my band on March 10th! That day cannot come soon enough. I just got home from an Oscar party and there was so much food there and I felt like a dork with my shake. I wasn't going to go because of the food, but I got on the scale this morning and I have lost 8lbs so far (i'm on my 4th preop day) and I felt like going out and having a good time.

I did find myself mesmerized by watching my friends eat. Just watching them shove mouthfull after mouthfull of crap down was so weird. I have never paid attention to how other people ate before. That made me feel better about drinking my shake. I have been known to pig out before, but I never knew it looked so disgusting.

Hi Everyone!!

Where are all the March bandsters at?!! I was just approved last week and have a surgery date of March 16th. Looks like I'll be starting a two week pre-op liquid diet (Optifast) on March 2nd which I'm not looking forward to!! Anyone else scheduled for March? Do you have a pre-op diet to follow?

Good Luck to everyone!! :)

I will be banded on Monday, March 7th :bananajump: Beyond excited. Have been on the 2 week pre-op diet and have done fine so far although starting to get sick of eating Soup. My mom is coming up on Saturday to help me out for a week. Have begun to go through my clothing and will be giving most of them to a friend of mine but keeping some while I am "transitioning" to the new me. Can hardly wait. This website has been a huge inspiration and a big help to me. I found my surgeon here, Dr. Ferrera out of Fort Worth. I go to the support group meetings every Tuesday night. Every little bit help. Well gotta go now. Gotta go make a Protein shake and then will have more Soup :smellie:.

Cheers :cheers2:

I am getting banded on 3/18/11. It was supposed to be 3/1/11 and I had already done my 2 week Optifast diet. Well, went to doctor this morning and the insurance screwed up the hospital so now I have to start over. Yep, 2 more weeks of optifast starting on 3/4/11. I wanted to cry at the dr today but I will suck it up and just count it as extra time to prepare. Lost 10 lbs on optifast and it is not as bad as you think. The chocolate is better than the vanilla but they were both pretty good.

I am getting banded on March 18th. Feels like forever and too fast at the same time. I started the process in August 2010. I am nervous/excited. The surgeon's office told me to do two days of Clear liquids before surgery and nothing about a pre-op diet. I have been reading Dr. Sewell's book and might do the three weeks of Protein shakes/small dinners. I don't want there to be any complications with my liver, etc.

Good luck!! I feel the same way the you do about the forever/too fast thing! I also started in August!! I have to do 2 weeks of a liquid diet but will get the exact diet on Tuesday. My friend that had the surgery a couple years ago told me to "eat light" know so that is what I am doing even though my liver isn't fatty! I am going to find Dr. Sewell's book! I also have to meet with the anestheiaologist, so I will ask him questions about nausea. I am actually drinking myoplex right know for dinner!

I will keep watching you on your knew life!!!

I start my liquid diet on 3-17...anyone found any good chocolate shakes. Has anyone tried the shakes from costco? I heard they were delicious. Going to try them today.

I just tried myoplex for the first time today they are pretty good!! NO after taste, they are huge with 42gm of Protein, so I am only drinking half!!!

Good Luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
