Yay, Rosie....I am so happy for you...the initial soreness will pass and it is a great feeling to get in shape while being "older". I made the decision to cut back where I could so that I can keep my personal trainer who helps me tremendously. Best wishes.

Mimi

When I started the exercise thing (I still hate exercise with a passion!) I could hardly walk around the block. I kept at it and exercised, started with walking and then went to the bike and then the elliptical and now I am climbing 5 flights of stairs and somedays more. Trust me on this one...if I can do it so can you! Good luck

I had my surgery 8-29-08. Afterward, I had rotor cuff surgery and am now recovering from foot surgery. My hope is that after my foot is healed, I can start excercising. Yes, I've been lazy about excercising in between. I am dealing with accepting my flab and am bothered by my sagging chin. But I do have to remember that I can now control my diabetes with my diet, can finally get into Missy sizes, and have been told that I look younger. Best of all: I am so much happier!

It's been a long time since I have been on this site and just saw that my ticker is way off. I have lost about 75 pounds and have 25 to go. I'd like to lose those 25 pounds, but I know it will get harder to get to that goal the closer I get to it. I'll keep trying .......

Good Luck with the exercising. You are doing great!!!

My Plastic Surgeon told me to do Zumba. I said "ZUMBA??!! ARE YOU KIDDING??!!! I'm 60 YEARS OLD!!! I CAN"T do ZUMBA!!!!" She said, "ZUMBA!!!!!!!!" So I tried it and didn't like it. Never knew what direction to turn in and almost fell. But for some odd reason --- I thought "SPINNING CLASS" and I must have thought I was a teenager that day because I tried it. To my utter astonishment I LOVED it!!! I said to the teacher "Listen, I'm 60 years old and have been a couch potato for 50 of those yrs. Do not make fun of me or yell at me." She laughed and said, "we don't do that in here." Ends up that the instructor is also 60 (rock hard muscles!) and that half the men and women in the class are between 50 and 73. Who'd have thunk it?!

Swimming is my salvation. I have issues that cause so much pain I can't do out of Water exercise and keep in control of it. But in the water I feel wonderful. I am 52 and due to my issues had not exercised in YEaRS! I walked in the water and paddled about for a while. ( I know how to swim but no longer can for the most part) then I took the free senior friday version of aqua fitness class... twice. Then the regular class... I wasn't the only one my age or fitness, everyone was there to get fit! I ended up going to class five days a week, and reaching the point of asking for more challenging versions of some. I'm not 'in shape' like I was 15 years ago... but by golly I feel good!

I love the "Walk It Out" video game for the Wii system. I walk in place on the Wii balance board, and the screen shows my character walking around an animated island. For every step I take on beat to the music, I get a point. The points are used to build houses, trees, bridges and the like. It makes my walk fly by!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
