spoiltmom 44 Posted February 9, 2011 My last fill was a month ago. I have 6.5 ccs in a 10 cc band. I've lost 10 pounds but I'm so hungry. My meals consist of things like 3 oz of tilapia and steamed broccoli or a 3 oz pork chop with green Beans. I eat like that everyday. My calories average 1200 a day but I go to bed hungry and wake up hungry the next morning, My surgeon would like for me to wait until April but I'm thinking about going back before this month is over. Would you or would you wait?
Kalipso2 25 Posted February 9, 2011 well, if you're losing weight i would say no to the fill. everyone gets hungry at some point. the band won't erase the hunger feeling totally. my advice is to always listen to your surgeon. he knows best!
stateofzen 46 Posted February 9, 2011 I think it sounds like a fill is in order. I wonder why your surgeon wants you to wait? Did he/she specify?
emjay 8 Posted February 9, 2011 Spoiltmom - Try mixing up your eating times or routine. I have noticed that if I don't eat a little toast, or nuts with my main Protein (chicken, pork, fish, red meat) I get hungry sooner. I usually eat 1/2 of a sandwich thin (50 calories) or 1/2 of a piece of toast or bagel thin. I don't usually get hungry in the morning so I drink a Protein shake and wait until lunch for something solid - or have a small handful of nuts mid-morning to tie me over. I then have a yogurt with granola mid-late afternoon and eat dinner around 7:30 - 8pm. That way, I don't get hungry before I go to bed. Maybe you need to add a healthy snack and switch things up a bit. If you do not have a problem with any foods, are able to drink fluids adequately, and are not pbing or sliming on a regular basis, then a fill may be in order. Not sure why your doc is hesitant to give you one at this point. From what you have told us, you seem to be eating the right things, but if they are keeping you satisfied for 4-5 hours, then it's time to see what works in terms of changing that. Keep doing what you're doing in the meantime and best of luck!
spoiltmom 44 Posted February 9, 2011 I should have said I've been having 3 meals and 2 Snacks a day and im still really hungry. I do get stuck on solids though if I don't chew really good.
honk 780 Posted February 9, 2011 I am at 10 CC's. Depending on how solid the Protein is I can go about 4.5 hours before I am hungry. When you eat do you get either a full sensation and stop or feel full after a few minutes? If so how long before you feel hungry? After you measure the food, eat, finish are you still hungry? Or do you get hungry after only a hour or two? If you are hungry immediatly after eating I would say you need a fill even if you are loosing. If you are getting hungry after only a couple hours I don't know if my doctor would give you a fill since you are loosing almost 3 pounds a week.

spoiltmom 44 Posted February 9, 2011 I measure my food. When it's gone I stop eating. But I'm not getting a full feeling at all. I'm hungry again before an hour goes by which is why I have 2 Snacks a day also.
ElfiePoo 109 Posted February 9, 2011 I disagree with the band not helping with hunger. Mine does. I eat pretty much what you do - 3 oz of Protein and 1/2 cup (or 1 cup if I'm really hungry) of vegies and I can go about 4 hours before I start feeling hungry again. I look at that as normal hunger. I was told that if I got hungry sooner, try eating a Protein snack (hard boiled egg, 1-2 oz of cheese, etc.) mid-meal. If I was still hungry, then it was time for a fill. During the first 6-7 months postop, I had mid-meal protein Snacks...but now that I've got my blood sugar under control, I can go 4 hours before the hunger starts coming back and even then it's just twinges to remind me I'm coming up on dinnertime. .
