My dream situation-no fills required to lose weight. Anyone who's done this?

I thought I saw mention of it somewhere on this board.

I've thought about this too! and i think i'd like to try to..to a certain extent!

I had my surgery 1/20 and while im not eating entirely normals foods, (still trying to stick to the softest food i can) i definitely notice some restriction! without a doubt, i have to eat smaller bites, smaller amounts, and muuuch slower! that alone is soo good for me! i used to eat so fast before i barely even tasted what i was eating! im slowly discovering "how" to properly eat! small bites, tasting what im eating, and stopping before i get too full. the only problem is that while smaller amounts of food fill me up, i dont stay full for too long. for example, tonight for dinner i ate a piece of salmon, green Beans, and half a baked sweet potato, all healthy choices, and it kept me full for about 3 hours. not bad, but maybe a small amount of Fluid would keep me from being as hungry! all i know, is i would like to be able to eat normally, i.e. proper amounts of healthy food, and not feel like im restricted too much, while using the band to control my hunger. isnt that the point of this? we still need to make healthy choices and be smart! just not be so hungry doing it! :) good luck to you, im also very interested to hear what other people have to say about this!

I'm not picturing that at this early stage you'd be able to eat as much as a 1/2 sweet potato. I'm sorry, I didn't notice on your message what your weight loss progress has been, but if its been impressive, you might be lucky. Good luck with this!

well my doctor has moved me to soft foods, so i dont know if you mean the amount, type of food, or what exactly you mean by that! but i've lost 20 pounds since surgery day! granted, most of that was in the first two weeks and my weight loss has most definitely slowed, but thats a good thing. im not looking to lose 20 pounds every 2 weeks! lol thats clearly a ridiculous goal. but i work out at least 5 days a week for an hour (my doc also gave me the okay for that). and as long as im losing a couple pounds a week, feeling good, and not pushing my band, im gonna keep doing what im doing. that is of course, unless my doctor instructs me otherwise :)

congrats! thats amazing! any tips or advice?

Follow your post-op diet, get yourself on a schedule and stick to it. I religiously eat at the same times each day, I workout each day, and I eat pretty clean. Keep track of your calories/carbs/fats and find levels that work for you. I'm eating 1200 calories a day, 50-60 carbs, and 50g of fat or less. These are levels that fit me; they defintely won't work for everyone so play around and see what gets the scale moving. I started off doing a South-Beach ish type diet and have adjusted it to my needs.

I would LOVE to be able to do that. I haven't had a fill yet, only 7 weeks post op, but I thought I was going to get one abd my doc said he wanted me to heal more. But I hope either to have no fill or very little. I am satisfied with what I am eating and my only true hunger between meals is head hunger, which I gotta work on. I do not want to end up to tight like some people who can't even eat breakafast. My doc and nutritionist says no Snacks inbetween meals, but I do not get enough calories during meal, so I am doing what works for me.

So far I'm doing it. I had surgery on Dec 2nd, haven't had any fills yet and have lost 41 lbs. I asked my surgeon about it and he says that some people feel some restriction just by the fact that the band was put in place and that those people usually need just a few fills or none at all depending on the person. This is definately the case with me...according to him there is nothing in my band but I can definately feel restriction.

Some people are fortunate enough to get enough pressure just from the band. The rest of us need varying amounts of fill to stop the hunger. If the band is enough for you, then you're ahead of the game. Congratulations! :)

Yay! I think we are on the same track vickyd.

I don't know if I feel restriction but I have no idea how much I can eat, to be honest. I have never pushed the limit of what my surgeon's diet allows. I'm at 1/2 - 3/4 cup per meal and feeling satisfied. No Snacks in between meals but I do have a Jello sugar free pudding at about 8:00 each night with some PB2 mixed in (YUM!).

When you say you feel restriction - is it like a physical feeling of fullness when you eat or is it that you are finding you are satisfied with less? I'm so curious about how this is all working.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
