Juliat 6 Posted February 8, 2011 I really thought I was doing well. To be honest, I hadn't lost weight, but I haven't gained either since after my liquid diet post-op. To me, this is a victory no matter what. Well, I've been reading posts here and thought I would give that whole food journal thing a try. So, I signed up with Fitday (cause it's free and cause I'm cheap) and logged all my food. To give a breakdown, I had my surgery on September 28, 2010 (223lbs). I lost 11 pounds before the surgery and 7 pounds after. I've had three fills and now am at 6.5cc in a 10cc band. I've lost an extra 2pounds. So, I know that I'm still finding the sweet spot and all that good stuff. But, I don't eat as much as I used to and couldn't figure out why I wasn't losing. Well, here's why ( I hope you can see it): Oh, my good God in heaven! 1912 calories? 112 carbs? Thought I was doing low-carb too! What a rip I'm tearing up on my Protein with 185 grams, but is it too much? So, maybe too much with two whey Protein shakes a day? Cut the yogurt? I know the meatloaf didn't help, but before I would have tore that thing up and now I can only eat a portion so there lies my conundrum. I put the instant coffee and splenda in my Protein drinks to help with the taste. I find them just horrible. I have cottage cheese and peach slices for Breakfast in the morning because I'm too tight to eat eggs (which I love). I had some extra cottage cheese (just .25 cup) with my meatloaf. The nuts are for my afternoon snack with my shake and the yogurt I eat about 10am with my shake. Sunflower seeds are my evening snackage for right before I go to bed. I know I need another fill, that's a given because I get hungry about an hour after eating. Well, this is a learning process so I'm a learning the hard way. LOL Thanks for reading, just thought I would share my WOW moment today.
Noturningback15 45 Posted February 8, 2011 I started tracking my calories at the start of the day to prevent this because I was shocked one day like you when I added it up after the fact. So, every morning I plan what I am going to eat and I try to give myself a little room if I want to throw in a snack. It's helping but then sometimes I look at my chart and throw it out! Rules get on my nerves sometimes! LOL! I am hoping I can get to the point where I have gotten use to my menus and don't have to count calories. Good luck! I bet you are going to do fabulous now! TKW 501 Posted February 8, 2011 It adds up fast. I try to eat about 1200 calories a day. I average between 1000 - 1400. Good Luck to you!

ElfiePoo 109 Posted February 9, 2011 It's scary, isn't it? But good for you for taking the time to log what you were eating and now at least you can see how to fix it!
nu2ywg 4 Posted February 9, 2011 I think the food record is a great idea! Good for you for getting going with it. I don't know how tall you are but I'm 5' 5.5" and my nutritionist recommended 70g of Protein per day for me (the range was 60-80!) so to me it looks like you are getting tons of protein. You probably don't even need those shakes...you're getting plenty in the food you're eating. But you should take my words with a grain of salt as I'm very new at this. Just passing on what I've been learning these last weeks.
Juliat 6 Posted February 9, 2011 Thanks everyone for replying! So, this morning I'm taking SF2009's advice and did my diary for today ahead of time. So, I cut the shakes, the yogurt and the amount of cottage cheese I have in the morning to .75 cups and it makes a huge difference! Calories 1,219 Fat 63.4 Carbs 44.7 Protein 124 My protein's a still kind of high, but I know I can work on getting that down. I kept hearing the doc say Protein, protein, protein and went crazy getting food high in protein Julia BTW, I'm 5'2 and my doc said I should 60-90 grams a day
Cliff N. 2 Posted February 9, 2011 first off i am no expert by know means... i would keep the yogurt and cottage cheese...BUT i would switch them to NON FAT, and only have 1/2 cup=4oz, also it gives you a good source of Calcium, and get rid of the dark chicken meat = fat, go with white meat leaner and healthier, and only have a 1/2 cup of your servings, Beans and nuts.... like i said im no expert here, but good luck
vickyd 24 Posted February 9, 2011 I use fitday too and when I go in for my appointmtents I print out the log for about 7-10 days so they can see what I am eating and give me suggestions if I need it. My major focus is calories (I keep mine around 1,000 per day) and Protein (my NUT wants me between 80-120 per day), I do look at fat and carbs but I don't have a particular level I try to meet for them. Based on your numbers, it does seem like your Protein is high but I'm not sure what effect too much protein has on weight loss - you might want to call your NUT and ask... reverie 49 Posted February 9, 2011 Congrats on taking the steps to figure out what you were doing wrong! I would keep your Protein up!!! Maybe lower your fat content otherwise you're at pretty reliable levels.
