Hello everyone,

This is my first time writing, and I need some advice. I just found out by my doctors office that I am going to be able to have the lap-band procedure done sooner than I thought, so I wanted to schedule it for the second week of march since I will be off from school for about 10 days. A friend from class knows someone that had the procedure done before and she is telling me that 10 days is not enough recovery time after surgery. If I don't get it done in March, I will have to wait until I finish school in July.

For the people that have had the procedure done, do you think 10 days is not enough time at home?

I had my surgery on Tuesday 1/11 and was back to work Tuesday 1/18. I was sore the first couple of days but each day got a little better. Of course, I have a job that doesn't require lifting or a bunch of physical activity. I felt fine coming back after a week. It still hurt to cough or sneeze but other than that, I was ready to go back.

Just listen to your own body!

Are you a student? Do you have a job where you need to lift things? If you have a sedentary job or go to school full time I don't think you will have a problem. When I had my gall bladder out (regular incision) I could not work for the rest of the semester because I was an industrial janitor and had to lift heavy things. I had the best GPA of my college career because I got to concentrate on school instead of working! I am a corporate recruiter which is lots of sitting. I had surgery on a Thursday. Went back to work the next Monday. So nine days after surgery. Even if you are not working or standng a lot the port incision will still hurt after 10 days but it's not bad.

Although everyone is different, I would be willing to bet that 10 days for you to recover is plenty of time. I had surgery on a Tuesday and went back to work on Friday (and worked a full 8 hour shift). My job does not require a bunch of lifting, but it does require me to be on my feet all day. I was a little sore and tired at the end of the day, but overall I felt pretty good!!! Good luck in your journey, I am sure you will be just fine!!

I am a full time student and I don"t work, so I pretty much sit in class all day.

Thank you so much to everyone for the responses, I feel much better about my decision now. This helps a lot.

I had my lap band surgery yesterday and to be quite honest, I feel fine. A little tender, but all in all I feel great. 10 days is plenty of time of rest and recouperation. But, it also depends on your pain tolerance. I am sore around my port incision, because it's about 2" long, but other than that, I feel great.

I wish you the best, and good luck on your surgery.

I sit on my butt for a job and I worked the next day after I came home from the hospital. It's just slow moving around and driving the first week but other than that most should be fine :)

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
