I know i have a little guide that i was sent home with from the nutritionest but it definately doenst give me very many options. So if anyone would like to share what they had preop diet that would be great. Or if you can direct me to the forum that discuss this topic that would be great too. Im still very new to this site and havent really figured stuff out!

Haha I totally read your post wrong, but I typed this out so I'll leave it. My pre-op was Clear liquids and Protein shakes for a week.

Well, in the end you eat normally. Just watch your calories. But the first few weeks are pureed foods, soft foods and liquids.< /p>

For me I had liquids the week before, Clear Liquids and Protein Shakes only. I'd have my Protein Shakes 3-4x a day, then I'd have some broth or sugar free Jello if i wanted something else.

Then after surgery for 7 days I was aloud full liquids, So I had lite creamed Soups, sugar free pudding, but still pretty much just the Protein shakes. My advice PROTEIN first. If you then want broth or whatever have that, but make sure you get the protein shakes down, they have the nutrition and will keep you from being hungry.

Then I had pureed food for 10 days, which for me I did a LOT of oatmeal, I did stuff like tuna salad, egg salad, chili, small ground meat, thicker Soups. (I know some people are even stricter, but that stuff worked for me, just make sure it's things that are really easy to slide down and digest), I would only eat maybe 1/2 cup at a time

Then I had soft foods for 10 days, which is pretty much everything, just no veggies, or things that are hard to digest like tough protein. I could start crackers, I had eggs, and more of the things above. Same here maybe 1/2-3/4 cups

Then regular food on day 28. Now, I eat regular meals, I just keep them small maybe a cup, cup and a half of food. Make sure I eat lots of protein. You just have to watch calories and fat. Especially when you eat out, those meals can have thousands of calories. I generally have 3 meals maybe 350 calories each, then I'll have a snack 150ish calories.

HeatherinCA always has awesome advice and I have to second everything she said....I would add that you need to have a variety of things becuase you may get bored with what you are allowing yourself...and that is where the temptation to stray comes into play. :)

Congratulations!

Great news on the surgery date!! My LRD is 2 weeks clear liquids and 3-4 Protein shakes per day. Surprisingly it isn't bad (being banded on the 22nd). As for after what is stated above is what I have to do as well.

Good luck!! :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
