Has anyone tired the GM diet after being banded, or any other "diets" in general?

I was banded in April '08, lost a total of 125 pounds. Kept that off for a long time by having a very tight band. However, turned out to be too tight and I had to have all the Fluid taken out of the band...let my stomach relax for 3 weeks, and then had it slowly filled again over several months until my doctor felt is was as full as should be. I have good restriction, not as good as before, but still good. During the time that my band was empty and getting filled slowly, I gained back about 25 pounds. I have been able to drop 5 of those, but really want to ditch the other 20.

Some friends (non-banded) at work have been doing the GM diet and each lost about 10 - 20 pounds over 10 days. I read over it and the foods you are allowed to have, are all things I could eat with the band.

So, I am thinking about doing it to give myself that push.

Just curious if anyone else has done that and if it was successful?

I would not recommend it... I had to google it to find out what it was. It is basically a re-invention of the Sacred Heat Diet, does not have a lot of nutrietional value. I tried the Sacred Heat Diet about 1 year pre-band, and lost about 7 pounds in the first few day.... then gained about 15 back. A co-worker, cycled the diet for about 3 months every two weeks and dropped about 40 pounds... and has gained at least 60 pounds back. Remember, that sound nutrietion and calorie counting will get you further than any fad diet will.

I seem to have found my own "sweet spot" in that I manage to continue to eat carefully while not being on an identifiable "diet". Now 6+ years postOp, I remain frustratingly "30#" from goal. On a positive note, I also remain OFF insulin injections after 15 years twice daily and OFF CPAP after 10 years. LBT gives me ample evidence rejoicing in my blessings while striving to continue my journey requires more focus and discipline. Re: "diet" preOp I had been on every version both rational and nonsensical ever devised. Somehow they always ended with realization I had actually gained back whatever I lost AND then some. I don't have an answer other than to continue those behaviors that have proved effective in producing the results I wanted, long enough to do such. cheers for all of us in the ongoing struggle

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
