Hey all! I have been lurking for a few days now, and wanted to introduce myself to the community. My name is Amy, I will be turning 29 later this month. I am scheduled to have the Lap-Band surgery on April 28, 2006 by Dr. Sanchez in Monterrey, Mexico. I am a mother to two lovely and active children, daughter Emily is 4 and son Anderson is 3. We just settled in Tampa, FL after making a major move from the west coast due to stress in hubbie's job. Now that we are settled he is forcing me to focus on myself.

Yes, I am one of those people that puts everyone first. Why do you think I am still fat? LOL So my darling husband, light of my life, has proclaimed it to be my turn for attention. I couldn't have picked a better guy.

I have decided to pay for the whole surgery up front rather than put it on a credit card or get a loan. That way its over and done with. So my surgery is scheduled for when the amount will be completely saved. Until then I am doing some preliminary weight loss before surgery so that my metabolism is already raring to go, and so that I am in a bit better shape for the procedure itself. I do not have any medical issues, just lots of pain in my legs and back. I can no longer work because of this pain, so I am a housewife that gets to sit down every half hour. (I used to be very athletic when I was younger, and have a previous knee injury that now gets enflamed quite a bit)

So that is me. I think I have stated everything. I will be posting before pics at some point. But there is a pic of hubby and I in my profile. I'm so glad you all are here. All of your success and confidence in yourselves is what made me decide to take the plunge. So for that, I thank you.

Amy

Oh, and some of the things planned when I get to goal weight:

Ride a roller coaster

Get a butterfly tattoo (for the transformation)

Belly Button Ring

Plastic surgery to fix any problem areas

Marathon (I used to be an avid runner)

Topless sun bathing in the bahamas ... yeah I said topless! LOL I will probably never do it, but a girl's gotta dream!!...

Hi Amy,

Welcome! I also lurked a few days before I made the plunge and told people who I am. It isn't easy... It's like getting naked! LOL I also live in Florida, but on the other coast. I, well, We (my husband says I have a pronoun problem, ME, MY I) moved here from Connecticut this past July. I just love it. Just hoping to lose enough weight to enjoy it more

Next subject: I am also going to Mexico, but I am leaving next Tuesday! Boy is that scarey! I was fine until a couple of days ago and now I am very testy to the ones I love most....

My Dr is Rumbaut. If you want we can keep in touch and I can let you know how it all goes.....

WELCOME......

I was reffered to Dr. Sanchez by a friend that had the gastric banding in September. She is doing great!(-50lbs) Also, the only doctor in my area that performs the lap band had only done 3, was trained by Dr. Sanchez. SInce I was self-pay he recommended Dr. Sanchez. The hospital was nicer than any hospital I've ever been in. The only problem I had was understanding the people in Mexico. I speak no Spanish at all. If you don't speak the language, I suggest getting a translation book or an electronic translator from Radio Shack. Bring shopping money!! I went shopping the day I got out of the hospital. The clothes, purses, & shoes are so cute down there. My sister went with me. If you can take someone with you, i think it makes the trip better.

Welcome Amy! I'm self-pay too, hard to wait, isn't it. :) But it'll be worth it!!

Glad to have you on board!

I too am a new user. I don't have a scheduled date yet, I am waiting to hear from my Insurance. I spoke to them this morning and they said it would be 30 to 40 days to be approved, but they did not see why I would be turned down. I am so nervous but excited...I daydream everyday of wearing my "skinny" clothes again...and being excited about going out with friends. I can't wait to have my confidence back again.

I love reading how much everyone has lost. Has anyone had a lap-band surgery in Tennessee? I am having Dr Morten in Nashville do mine. He has done over 500 and is a proctor for the Lap-band. I feel confident in his work.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
