How much does your surgeon say to eat at one time?

Recommended Posts

I told mine that I'm eating about a cup of food at a time and he said I should only be able to eat 3/4 of cup.

Is that right?

When I eat the cup I don't feel full I just stop eating b/c I know that's enough. If I were over eating wouldn't I feel some pressure in my chest or something?

Do any of you know what Allergan's official word is on this? I tried searching their site but all I can find is portion sizes and not how much/little to eat.

Thanks everyone!

1/2 cup of solid food. Of course if I eat Soup or something like that I can eat more than 1/2 cup.

Maybe if you can eat more than that, it is going through the stoma and down to the larger part of the stomach .... not staying in the pouch?

I eat a cup each meal, excluding my Snacks. Meal size will depend on the tightness of your band. I was told at full restriction 1/4 cup would be filling.

I wonder that too. I don't want to mess up by over eating but I don't want to get another fill right now either. Some days I'm really hungry and my band feels like it's not even there. Then other days it's so tight that I end up getting stuck.

My surgeon said about 3 oz of Protein, 1/2 cup vegies and 1/4 cup of starch if I'm still hungry. Most day I'm good with the Protein and vegies...and will actually just increase the vegies instead since I like to keep my carbs down.

Works well for me since I have no physical restriction.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
